It's funny to see the translation for many knife companies on that website. About 90% of the brand featured on that website, translation reads "police issued" or "military covert operation issured killer knives". Even Spyderco and Gerber were described as "police knives".

I was a Range Officer at the last International Police Olympics shooting events a month or so ago. During some down time I spoke with a couple of Hong Kong Police Officers.

I demoed the Commander for them and asked if such a knife would be available in Hong Kong/China. They responded with shaking heads and explained that knives with over three a half inches were forbidden. To legally possess them, you must get written permission from the local Police Department. This permission is granted for Machetes and the like, for Agricultural purposes.

The Chinese based knife shops and web sites may be reflecting these laws.

John, you are a wealth of information...

Thanks for clarifying! I suppose that rules out carrying the Commander 'legally'

We teased w/ Ichi about the "Zombie" knife.
That's the moniker we gave it. However that is not the actual name. It is based on a video game in Japan and they have been selling very well. The gentleman in the picture is avery capable operator named Mike Bottoms.

Do you guys remember those Commanders with custom ground Ti-blades but with production handles? They were sold by Emerson at around $1270.00. Anyone get one?

Jason: Did Ernie ever finish them?? I never even heard they went on sale.

John: YIKES! Looks like a smaller version of Laci Szabo's UUK. I'm really starting to like Strider's knives. Thanks for the pic.

Lokks to me like it would be best used for close in fighting, specifically limb trapping and destruction, like many of Ryan's knives.

Usual Suspect In Training

Steve was approached first about manufacturing that knife. He could in no way produce those numbers. He respectfully passed. Now Strider is selling alot of those and SEAL 2000 for close to $1,000.00 each in Japan. In fact the Japanese Spec Ops units may adopt the SEAL 2000 as a duty knife.

It is used firstly as a straight thrust/punch tecnique knife. It's ergonomics lend itself well to that technique.

For those that can learn how to trap and redirect it is awesome as Scott 475 noted.
Limbimmobilization can be acheived w/ this knife as well as deflecting a Club, Bat etc.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info Tamishigiri, I guess the Ryan Tiger I saw must have been a one off. In fact there is a picture of the Ryan Tiger in the April 2000 Japanese Knife mag.
Again, excuse me for placing a non Emerson post here. Donald.
