The Caribbean scales are the most comfortable yet grippy in Spyderco's entire line. Why on Earth replace them? Also they are machined to fill the skeletonized liners to avoid gathering dirt and fish guts. This also makes the handle more rigid by effectively bonding liner and grip. It's one of those cases where you can't improve the original. Save your modifications for lesser knives.Hi all,
Does anyone knows where to get custom scales for my Caribbean, and Gayle Bradley2?i love both knife's,but the main reason to keep both are after market scales.hopefully you guy's can guide me in the right direction, thanks in advance!
I agree. The color is so-so, the steel is so-so, but the handle, overall design, and build quality is so good that I rate it the best Spyderco I own.I love the Caribbean. It is a perfect edc. I don't love the yellow, but it is easy to dye. What I do love is the texture of the scales. Most G10 smooths out over time, but the scales on the Caribbean seem nearly impervious to this, and they work great when wet. As usual, Spyderco has created an excellent purpose-driven design here. IMO it is absolutely one of the most underrated knives out there. I'd love to see a smaller version too!
No, as you go down in depth all color start to turn greyish, only purple and blue remains past 100', while red is worst as you only need to go down a few feet before it disappear. Yellow? Probably only good until 30~40 feet of water column.Sure scales can be dyed, but does that work for black to say red or blue?
Another black knife doesn’t do much to stir my blood, and red or blue are more visible in my neck of the woods, but maybe deep water colors favor yellow stripes as wavelength penetration changes with depth.
