I have several knives that I want to make custom scales for. But because I'm a perfectionist I want to cnc them instead of just doing it by hand. Does anybody know how I should go about 3d modeling my current scales so I can cnc new ones? Thanks for the help.

If you are a whiz with CAD or Rhino you could just create them. Some CNC machines have a touch probe to "scan" items into 3D, but my experience says that a highly detailed scan will take a long time and still need considerable cleaning up in CAD. A 3D laser scanner will probably give the best results, but the scale will have to sit on something to be scanned and you may need to combine scans together if machining is needed on all sides of the scale

A little background? Are you a knife maker? Pimper? Unless there is some 3d aspect to the scale you need copied then a belt grinder in the right hands should do the trick.
