Howdy
I am a maker of handmade, handlaced knife sheaths. I use a variety of exotic materials such as Cayman, Ostrich, Snake skin, frog skin, Stingray, Elephant, also bull and cowhide. My sheaths are full welt and double toe welt construction. I make 3 different styles.
The Ranger is a two piece ring sheath, laced on both sides. It features an O or D ring between the belt loop and sheath, that allows the sheath to move with you and prevents that annoying rib jab or belt ride up when you sit or squat. This style is great for your longer bladed knives with finger guards.
The Osage is a one piece sheath, laced on one side that also has the ring feature. Again, a good style for longer bladed knives with finger guards.
The Scout is a one piece, pouch style sheath for knives with little or no finger guard. Also can be used for bigger folders. It's designed to allow the knife to sit down in the sheath past the finger guard, with a portion of the handle exposed. No keeper is needed, the top lacing holds the knife firmly in place.
I have a good selection of sheaths in stock, but I also do custom order work.
Prices vary with the size and type of material. I can work from measurements, but would prefer having the knife in hand to assure a perfect fit.
Here's three examples of my custom work. The knives were a couple of monster customs with 10"+ blades. The black Elephant is the Osage style, the rattlesnake is in my Ranger style. The third pic is of the Scout style in Cayman hide(South American Croc)

Here's a couple of my sheaths I have to offer that I have put a couple of nice custom knives with. The first is a dark brown Elephant hide Scout sheath with a custom made knife by a friend of mine, S. Frank Corum from Liberty, Mo. It features a beautiful crown antler handle with brass spacer and finger guard. The blade is 440c stainless, upswept, skinner type. Blade length is 4 1/4" x 1" x 1/8". Overall length is aprox. 9". Tapered tang construction. Frank does excellent work.
$100 shipped to the U.S.

My second offering is a Python skin pouch sheath with a custom made file knife from an unkown maker. It features a very nice crown antler handle with brass finger guard. The blade is made from a file in a drop point style. Blade length is 4" with 3 1/16" being sharpened and the rest showing a fair amount of the original file it was made from. Overall length is aprox. 7 3/4". Tapered tang construction.
$110 shipped to the U.S.

Welcome, looks like you'll be a great addition to the BF community.

I live with about half a year of wet weather, from your various materials used what would be a good options for a sheath to be made from?

I think the best choices would be Stingray or shark, which are naturally waterproof. Cayman is also good. I have one of my Osage style Caymans that I use personally out in the woods. It's been in rain, snow and a few spills into mud with little ill effect. Using mink oil on any of your sheath will help to waterproof them and keep them supple. I am a firm believer in keeping my gear, knives and sheaths, oiled up with protectorant.

gday mate..nice sheaths there. What is one like that 10inch rattlesnake one worth? I have a busse fusion battle mistress on the way and need to dress it in something nice. It has green linen micarta though so not sure if the rattlesnake is a suitable colour.

cheers

Stingray or shark, both sound very interesting as a sheath. Shark hide must be tough stuff and naturally waterproof.

Cheers sounds good

Mark,

Your pictures aren't showing up for me.

That's odd. They work just fine from home. Nice looking sheaths.
