Awhile back Pete mentioned that the 532s would be available in the Custom Shop, but not show up there "officialy", is this close or far off ? The 532 is such a nice candidate for special scales, additional filework and damascus. I have a red and blue handle so far, lusting now for a "special" from Pete's shop!!!

Brian,

Obviously I'm with you in hoping it comes true. I've now 8 532s with another BG-42 version being fancied up with mastadon ivory scales due in a few months.

I think the more appropriate question is to inquire about how well the 2000 Limited Editions have sold. I know I bought both the cherrywood and indigo royalwood models. Hopefully sales are up although I still maintain if they'd bundle a pocket pouch instead of a belt sheath and market it as an "upscale" large Gent's knife they'd sell better.

Pete is not here today to ask about the 532's in PCKS. I would leave him an email to answer this question but our email has been shut down by the love bug virus!
I do believe the 532's in the current catalogue are doing good. This is a great sign for those of us who are members of the secret 532 collectors club!
Nobody around here wants to see that model go away!

Well, hopefully the 532 will show up in Pete's, along with the still unknown fixed blade model

A sidebar to this 532 issue is the sheath I just had made by a local leather guy. I told him I wanted something that would sit inside the pants pocket, filling it from side to side, with a pouch in it to hold the knife in an upright position. This would protect the knife and also position it in easy to access fashion. No more wallowing with change & keys in pocket bottom. So, anyway, this guy listens and then proposes this;
a thin double faced leather strap/belt loop that continues down into the pocket, ending in an open top pouch, that is suspended in the pocket, not going all the way to the bottom, so when you sit, it doesn't move up out of the pocket.
I liked the idea and said ok. Just picked it up Wednesdy and it works like a charm. It'll work on either front pocket, in jeans or "docker" style pants(the dressier pants are what I had it made for, discrete office carry) and the pouch will hold a 532 or one of my Camillus Tortise/Abalone shell Trappers. I'm sure it'll accomodate many other medium/small no-clip folders too.
Anyway, hope my explanation is clear, this thing works great, no-one at work notices it and I don't have to explain why I have a "big ol'" knife clipped to my pocket!!

Brian,

Sounds like a great idea. How can we get in touch with this sheath maker?

Thanks,

Hi John,
I'll give you his email, he does not have a web site, he's a long time local leather worker that I just discovered :O, both he and his son work in this neat little shop in Ocean Beach, a beach area of San Diego.
His name is Phil LeDuc,
email = cowcutter@aol.com (cowcutter, ya gotta love that)

Who is doing your fancy scales? Any chance of some good abalone? Thanks--Will

Will,

I know this will make me sound like a jerk, but I honestly don't know. The 532 upgrade is being brokered through a third party who prefers to stay in the shadows. This is my second run through this contact... both receiving the mastadoon ivory treatment.

Bob--
I posted the above before contacting you privately. Didn't mean to put you on the spot, and no, you don't sound like a jerk. You are just contracting for services rendered for a price. Obviously, Buck is being paid for whatever they are contributing to the mix. I respect your relationship with your supplier. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes.
Best to you--Will

Will,

Absolutely no problem! Just wish PCKS would add 532s with exotic handle options like mastadoon ivory, abalone, mother of pearl, etc. and be done with it

Bob--
I second that! By the way, I have a 532 on its way to me, and would still like to find an aftermarket source for replacing the scales with abalone, if anyone has any leads for me.

Thanks--Will

Will,

There's a guy who has garnered quite a bit of renown here on BFC by adding filework and exotic scales to production folders such as Spyderco, Benchmade, etc.

I'll try searching to find some info... hopefully my unstable WIN95 system will hold together for it

Bob--
Thanks for the heads up, and for taking the time to dig that out. I'll drop Frank a line. That's great!!!

Will et al:

Just discovered Frank is here as a relatively new Forumite too. Uses the handle "ats34" and has an active thread in the General Forum.

Thanks, Bob. I've been in touch with Frank, and he does know his stuff. I posted to his thread on the general forum, and I really appreciate your help in sending me to him.

Best to you--Will

Any new information on the original question in this thread?

I got my new 532 in early last week. The 2000 series, in Indigo Royalwood. It is FAST becoming my favorite carry knife, bar none. That includes the Military, the BM710, Spydie Standard, BF Blue Native, and several fixed blades (although, to be honest, my customized Nimravus Cub would probably be my constant companion if it hadn't gotten so warm it's hard to conceal). I would be overjoyed to be able to get another BG42 532 with one of the custom scales that Pete's shop offers for the 110.
