Custom Shop AD Variant look-a-like!

Very nice work. That shape works really well on that size blade.

This one started out as a Sage/Blk Companystore Active Duty. I did not mic it before I worked on it but I am pretty sure it was the standard .19-.20 and not a fatty. I did not realize that the Companystore had fatty ADs.

This one now mics out at .180 at the ricasso.

The original AD LE is 0.15", so I was being facetious when I referred to the recent ones as 'fat' by comparison. That distal taper looks great!

Yowza! The original AD's were skinny? Now that is what I am talking about :thumbup:

Beautiful work Ban, as always. How do you get the spine without removing the handle. Anyway, very impressive stuff
Thanks for the pics

I first remove the handles before doing any mod work. It would be very difficult to try and sand the flats without first removing the scales. Even if it could be done it would not look as nice and clean.

You can still get to the spine without first removing the scales. You would just have to remove a slight amount of material from the handle slabs.

I first remove the handles and first priority is to remove all of the dimples from the flats. Then I profile the shape of the blade before regrinding the primary bevels. Next I do a hand satin on the entire knife then move on to polishing out the spine then putting on a radius to all the sharp corners of the spine and handle. Finally the handles are reattached and re contoured to match the new spine. It sounds like alot of work because ...It is! ;)
