Custom Shop.. Bad Feelings

I know everyone here is very frustrated with the changes in the Custom Shop and the lack of communication on Bucks part regarding these changes..
I too had planned on ordering 2 or 3 110's in the near future. :grumpy:

However, sometimes things are said that really aren't appropriate.

The main thing to remember is that many people on here consider Joe a friend,
and that he has gone above and beyond for a lot of people, me included..

He is in a very bad situation. Obviously he has to deal with the Buck people every day, its his job...
Yet still trying to maintain peace and friendships on here.

I know that most on here already know this, this was mainly directed at a few who might casually end up reading these threads and decide to give input thats not appropriate...

Ordering two or three???? I have read that from some other of the Brotherhood. The prices doubled or tripled (I don't know as the CS page won't open with my dial-up)? Perhaps think of the display case room you can save for that one special CS110 since most of you had planned to buy two or three anyway, you can spend the same amount and have one very nice 110 from the CS to treasure!
My BG-42 sambar f/g n/s engraved CS110 still goes many places with me and now it is somewhat exclusive to me!
Seems if I want a knife, I pay the price. Always have and always will....find a way ;)

They not offer my favorites anymore.
 :thumbdn:
Aggggh roc Pleeeeeeseeeetell me it 'tant so!!:barf::foot:
i beg you to hold off judge ment tell
Mighty Joe H. has a chance to see if he can swing some thing fer the club!
as he said he is not with out influnce, and you said if there was club priceing you would join, yes?:o:p

Yes, I would.

:)

But, it's true they don't offer my favorites anymore.

And I am sad.....delayed on that MOP when I KNEW I should order it!!!

I was gonna order my annual 110 Goose Club Damascus. Next month I was thinking of a 110 Fiji Orange Woody. So, I went to the Custom Shop page. That took care of that.
Instead I ordered a Cold Steel Ti-Lite and Benchmade with the loot.

I also have nothing against Joe...he's TOPS. But I Sirusly don't see any Bucks on the horizon for me...unless it's something cool I find fishing in the "bay". But that revenue has already been recognized by Buck through whomever bought it originally.

Certainly, Decaf, if the prices come down to "reasonable" I will order again...until then; the bottom line for Buck is the bottom line for me...they lost a Custom Shop customer.

Oh yeah, I said I was gonna be quiet on this...but it's a new thread, so what the hey.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts also Gooser...

I wanted a KOA/nickel with any fancy steel :D

I still can't justify the price increases... Especially puzzling to me is the fact that elk antler is a helluva lot more in the 110 than the CS alpha? what gives? I will pass. Time for me to fill the car with gas, I have enough knives.
(I can't believe I just typed that) :D

I knew I should have bit the bullet and ordered what I wanted when I wanted it. I think I'll save up a couple more dollars and buy (or save a few dollars by buying) a custom knife. They don't offer what I want now anyway.

From gd526...

I think that the problem is that for the same money that bought 2or 3 custom bucks a few months ago, you can now get one that is no more special than any one of those 2 or 3.

Perhaps this is the market value for these knives. Perhaps not. Time will tell.

I'm very sure the folks at Buck have taken into consideration where most of their knives are sold in the market. Big retailers likely account for alot of their sales. I just got a Fathers Day sale add from Bas Pro in the mail with an entire page of Buck knives. I've noticed their regular offerings are greatly expanded at BP. Lots of retailers selling lots of knives.

The Custom Shop probably accounts for a very small portion of over-all sales. The Custom Shop knives are more labor intensive than pop-together assembly line knives. No one just came in one day and tripled & quadrupled the prices at the Custom Shop without reason. Buck Knives is a business. I'm sure it just boils down to dollars & cents.

I read a great quote today: “I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure—which is: Try to please everybody.” —Herbert Swope

Lucky for most in this forum, we live in the greatest nation on earth. We work hard for our money....and can determine where every dime is to be spent.

For me personally, I will continue to collect Buck Knives. Mostly the old ones, and a few of the new. I frequent a few of the other forums here at BF, and always enjoy the knives I've seen.

Custom knives at Custom prices are available, but not always in the design of a 110.

I'd guess that is simply because there are not as many requests for the Alphas and they are easier to work with and use less material for the handles.

I wouldn't want an Alpha and I'm sure there's a few more like me.

In other words, if you have too many requests for 110s and not enough requests for Alphas.......you price the 110s higher with the same handle material.

I guess my feeling after reading all of these threads is that if Buck needs to charge these prices to make the CS knives a viable product for them, so be it.

But if it's being done just to gouge, that is obviously not OK.

And still, the manner in which it was done - without the slightest hint of the changes to come, even as we here clamored for the return of the Custom Shoppe on the Buck website - leaves a bad taste.

We were just told be patient, it will be back soon.

And so it is, with various unpleasant surprises.

...Never in a million years did I expect Buck to run down this road, but at this point it's all moot anyway. It is what it is and Buck's "working man" philosophy has changed, possibly forever, in the eyes of many. The two things I've read so far that strike the cord of inevitability to me and which truly sadden me, were put down by Scott and the goose...

I would love it if someone showed these threads to Chuck Buck and after him seeing and reading whats being said,i'd love to hear his valued opinion as to the move that Buck made towards its loyal longtime buck customers...a.k.a..."part of the family"...

Some new school ideas look good on paper, but last time i checked it ain't paper buying your product, its people.

just a thought,i've already tipped 4 shots,i'm outta here!

But at these prices, CS knives will never be a viable product, at least to most of us here. :(

I can't open the Custom Shoppe for some reason.
Can someone post a direct link?
I would like to see these new prices for myself.
How much of an increase are we talking about?

Thanks,
