I recently bought an original TG. Hugely underated knife, I absolutely love it. Not as heavy in trhe hand as I was expecting, while every bit as robust as I was expecting. Also, and this surprised me a little, it's a good-looker! :p I like the guard, it locks in my hand (for non-stabby uses... I dont expect to use it for stabbing :p) and doesnt impede my 'choking up' at all. It reminds of of an the illegitimate offspring of an illicit liaison between a Randal (maybe model 12) and a a Busse..... (at this point purists on both sides of the divide will berate me, I'm sure....)

Anyway, back to m original question. Does anyone have any pics of 'sexed-up' TGs? In my opinion it would look incredible with a stag handle! I know UYOTG has a lovely bowie TG, was wondering if there were any other pretty ones out there?

Also does anyone have a ballpark guess as to how much it might cost to get stag handles on my CGTG?

TG might be too new for there to be any/many Custom Shop variants just yet. Only Garth can answer the stag scale question, give him a call.

Thanks ResinGuy, my (over)enthusiasm for this knife has probably caused me to ask a silly question!

There were some in one of the last 'ganzaaas. Stabilized wood, g-rexed (I think), and satin blades.

Here is mine. Love it :)

Nothing too fancy... just damn comfy and useable tigerhide linen on satin here.

Nothing wrong with the original. The black coating is nice and smooth compared to the TGLB.

Shunsui, I agree the original is still beaut! Might look even better if it had a bit more of a beating!! :p Having said that the coating is pretty tough -- seems tougher than on my Boss Jack..

Gress, I knew there must be some Custom shop lovelies around. Thanks for sharing yours. Is it Ironwood?

Tim, Very jealous of yours too... If I were to start collecting several of a particular model it would be the TG original. Love the Tigerhide!

The beater...

...And the beautiful.

Been a fan of the TG since I first saw Jerry's pic. Even more so after using it.

Can't wait for the shorty TG! :)

To find some Sambar Stag handles to cover the size of grip needed on a TG won't be easy now ... for some reason stocks of good sambar antler seem really hard to come by ?

I suspect the oriental medicine market pays more than the knife market ....

Jaxx,

you're initial pics/review were some of the main reasons I got turned onto the TG... it seems to get surprisingly little attention elsewhere! I think its because of the guard. You can see why the guard might put people off, but in actual use, I love the guard. It really seems to lock in my hand.

Couple of questions. What are the handles on your beater? -- I think theyre the same as mine, and I've been trying to pin down what they are.

Secondly what are the handles on the pretty ones??

Is that a B10? A B10/B9 is next on my list!

I wonder if it is export laws from India (or tariffs on the way in) rather than Sambar endangerment. When I was living in South India there seemed to be more than enough Sambar to cater for Chinese 'medicine' and a few knife handles! :p

I love all of those for differing reasons! Would probably go Tiger if I had to choose!

.... Or Pumpkin!

...... Or Bruised!

........... Or Bowie!!

To replicate the thickness of the TG grips and to enable the hand shaping to be done you would need some serious sized antler because as you sand it down for the hand fitting you run the risk of hitting marrow which is black and was basically the old blood flow of the animal to enable growth. The marrow showing ruins the look of the grip ... it has a dark mottled pattern ... and only the biggest of stags will have hard "horn" of the depth needed where there is no blood flow ...

The site you showed does'nt have grips in the thickness range needed IMO ...

If you still have connections in India maybe they can sort you out ?

Giraffe Bone is good but again you need some really thick grips to do the job ... having to settle for thinner grips just for looks would'nt appeal to me in terms of comfort and fit ...

Ah, I hadn't thought about that... Do you think it would impinge on the ergos that much? The handles are already pretty large on the TG, especially next to the Boss Jack. Both seem comfortable for different reasons..
