IMO the list of handle options sorely needs updating and expansion. This is one I personally would would love to see:

Jigged bone is a perfect fit for the classic 110 style. There may be issues and difficulties regarding new blade options, but adding handle materials should be pretty easy, shouldn't it?

it is like any thing else , they need a reliable supply of enough of it to offer it at a reasonable price...
if they can not get what we consider a lot then they can not offer it...or have to charge an arm and leg for it...

I don't think it's a supply issue, it's a demand issue. Bone for knife handles is pretty common stuff. If enough people wanted it, it would make sense for Buck to do it. The fact that this thread has been viewed over 80 times (as of 9/13) and only one other person has commented in favor pretty much settles the demand question though.:grumpy:

Hi Blue Sky,

I like the jigged bone also. You can find these on ebay if you want one; they are not all that common and demand a high price in MHO.

Actually I'd like to see some micarta and G10 options offered --the blue and orange wood they offer now is pretty nasty and I don't see too many people choosing them.

They must have received a fabulous deal on the wood! :D

I like that jigged gig a lot. I would have to add it to my growing list of Bucks I want, but the point is, I would want one. Very nice.

If you're talking about jigged bone, that's pretty labor intensive. People need to be trained; tooling bought; workspace allotted. That bone you showed has been treated after jigging; whether staining or burning (or both), it's still more work. Lots of added steps to the manufacturing process. And jigging is a skill; not something you can trust to a MacDonalds reject.

Plus bone is hazardous material (while being worked); lots of headaches attached to HazMat in modern mfg plants... :(

So you can add cost-effectiveness to the supply/demand equation...

But I agree: I want one. ;)

It would be extra work, I agree. Especially when done per the example posted in this thread, which is very well done IMO. That's why it would be Custom Shop material, for those of us who would be willing to pay a premium for it. Case, Boker and even Bark River do a lot with bone, maybe they could work out a deal. . . :)

BTW, what is hazardous about working with bone?

I tried to find the warning for the bone, but couldn't... :(

IIRC, it fell in the same category as stag, mammoth tusk, walrus pecker, ivory, etc...anything organic...the dust is hazardous...

But if you've been sanding bone for years with no problems, then I must have mistaken it for something else... :o

When i started purchasing knives from petes custom knife shop thy actually had jigged bone as handle options, there was red jigged bone or brown ,and both where great with a damascus blade ,they were a very nice looking knife!

The only thing hazardous would be sanding without a good respirator. The dust particles are super fine and settle in your lungs causing respiratory failure. Similiar illnesses have affected survivors of the World Trade Center, miners and body shop repairmen.

Funny you should mention that, the one I posted has a damascus blade, though it's not obvious from the pic. I have another that shows it better if anyone is interested.
