Custom shop Premium Crooked River

It's sadly the case. Benchmade needs to take QC seriously. How this got out the door is beyond me.

To benchmade's credit their service is first rate. They apologized and sent me an overnight label to get it back in for service. Hopefully that will be the end of the issues.

Before ordering I was a bit concerned the Crooked River would be too large top carry comfortably; but after receiving it my concerns were put to rest.

On another note I just received the Kapara. The fit and finish are truly exceptional. And the knife drops shut out of the box, with zero blade play. This is how my Crooked River should have been.
I don't understand how Spyderco can put out a production knife like this while Benchmade sits back and does nothing to increase their quality. Our lifetime warranties might not be worth the paper they're printed on if Benchmade keeps dropping the ball like this.

I have had knives from many manufacturers at price points of 100 to 1000 that have had issues so it's not just Benchmade! I know the past few Benchmade's i have purchased have been spot on though.

Well to Benchmade's credit they completed the work in record time and got it back to me within two days of receiving it.
I really can't fault their service.

To be fair, Spyderco has had some pretty big design flaws lately, for example the Paysan lockslip and the feature of the Ikuchi that allows you to slice your finger while closed. For some reason Spyderco fans don't foam at the mouth and cry "the sky is falling" when these things happen... that's for the Benchmade crowd.

I received an Anthem last month that was terribly off-centered and had vertical blade play. That was my breaking point with Benchmade. I’ve been on the record over the past year defending BKC, including throughout their PR debacle(s), but I’m over the hit or miss quality. There are too many other good makers out there. come on Benchmade..get your $hit together!

Well the thing is there are facilities that we know produce consistently good products from spyderco. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the same can be said for Benchmade. It seems we all concluded that you either buy in person or resolve to send it back to have the issues resolved. I love Benchmade, but they are clearly dropping the ball on qc.

I bought my first Benchmade this year. It's near perfect and I couldn't be happier. I did have to adjust the pivot to my liking, but that's no big deal to me. My only concern was that I wasn't really sure what color scales and hardware I really wanted. I was relieved when they told me since I bought a custom, I could always send it back for them to re-customize it.
