custom slip joint marking poll

Do I want my custom slipjoints to have the blade steel marked on at least one tang?

  • Yes, I want it marked. Its better from a resale standpoint and I do not have to try and remember.

  • No, it does not make one bit of difference. My memory is good, even though the makers might not be.

I much prefer stamping over etching.

Elliott,

I think in the future stamping is going to be in the cards also for me. I would have to change my construction processes a bit.

Anthony,

Thanks for your input!

Kind of like the first issue of blade steel identification, it's a minor point. If I had a choice then it would be for a stamp vs. etch, but it's not a deal breaker by any means.

I think that since the customs that I buy will far outlast me, I would like to see them marked very discreetly , opposite the makers name. A fine roll type stamp will be a very nice feature to these knives. Most makers use a variety of steels so this would help any future owner. Thanks for asking.

I prefer to have the blade steel marked only if its small, discreet and doesn't affect the overall look of the knife.

In these days of a ga-zillion steel types, NOT stamping the steel type is akin to selling mystery meat...which is to say that it implies that "we're not tellin' you what's in it cuz, if you knew, it'd make you puke" :D
