Custom Survival Knife by Timothy Castantine

As usual, some great observations and advice has been given in this thread. Sounds like this knife will be carried/used daily so you should notice
any signs of a problem early on as opposed to knives that are stored for months without observation, where often significant damage has
already occurred by the time the issues are noticed.

Don't worry about the nails, I would choose a gorgeous woman who can operate power tools over one with a beautiful manicure any day. ;) :foot: :D

I´d choose the one who manicures her nails with power tools :D

And pink ivory wood is beautifill IMHO.
I have some that is bright red but also candy pink.
I´ve read that it needs to be protected against UV rays or will lose colour. (no personal experience there)

Very sleek! You wouldn't see a man walking around with that ;) I especially love the pink paracord, makes it look really unique. Very jealous you've gone and got a knife customized! My husband's quite into his survival knives (though he doesn't use them often. More of a collectible) and I'd quite like to see what the fuss is all about, he usually goes here for the Survival Knives but most of them have too much of a male-look to them (generally just quite chunky and not as light weight as I'd like them to be. The ones my husband has anyway) but you've inspired me to get a custom made number, especially because you seem to be so happy with yours!

I agree with you! The fact that it was a distant family making knives felt like an opportunity I didn't want to pass up. I really liked his style of knives and thought it was really special and unique to put my own twist into it. I do like the paracord for a survival knife, and I like that it is a bright color in the event that if I drop it in the woods, it will be easier to spot right away. I am really happy with mine and, like all the advice on the forum, I use it everyday and should be able to see any signs of a problem early on. I do recommend you go for a custom knife because as odd as it sounds, it feels like a special bond. Now I'm trying my hand at making my own, so you may want to give that a shot too! It has been really enjoyable!

It's a good-looking knife that stands on its own various merits.

I'd be more concerned about the cord itself trapping moisture against the steel - paracord can hold a fair amount of water and filth and takes forever to dry out when it's wrapped tight. At that point it doesn't matter much what kind of steel the blade is. There are going to be problems.

Naturally it makes a big difference if this is going to be EDC'ed in town and kept relatively clean and dry, or subjected to several days of rain and sweat and field-dressing animals and sleeping in the mud ;)

It's a touchy subject - cord wraps are cool for having cord handy on a survival knife, but they're bad for steel unless they're epoxied to the tang which of course, makes them useless as cordage. Nice and grippy, though.
