Custom Waving

Do you think there is any way to save the thumbstud? For instance, looking around I found this and it looks pretty good.

The 0300 you did Charlie Mike looks pretty good too in the image you posted previously, which also has retained the thumbstud.

That top pic looks pretty cool, except it needs to be rounded just a bit and radiused. On my 300, I only left the thumbstud because it also acts as the stop pin. The 200 has a stop pin, therefore I removed it the stud because I prefer the wave only option. If you notice the lack of flipper and speedsafe on my 300, that is how I roll... Wave only ;)

So then you would say that the thumbstud can be retained with the wave mod but you just don't like it in the first place versus the two being mutually exclusive.

Hmmm... I personally wouldn't wave the rift without cutting into or even behind the stud hole. As for the Spyder, the tiny portion removed may not be enough to grab the pocket reliably or worse, the pocket could get trapped inside the hole. You need more of an opening, this means dropping the top of the blade.

STR knows more about the how's and why's of this.

If it did not function reliably I would just keep opening the circle until it did which should work fine. The only thing I would be worried about is leaving enough of the hole to still be able to deploy it, which for you is not an issue obviously lol.

If you dont want to mess up expensive knives, get one of the spyderco byrd knives. I have a cara cara that I waved, and it looks great.

Here are 2 examples of Cara Cara I have waved:

Again charlie mike, I have no doubts at all that its functional but my god half the blade is missing lol.

If you wanna make an omelet... :D

I ground an atlantic salt to have a wave
BCOZ4970.jpg

just cut it in using a dremel, the spydie hole is intact too.
I spent a few hours polishing the edges with increasingly finer grits of wet/dry paper.

the knife had a nice little area that was perfect for a wave though, your knife may vary a little

Good job! Nice work bro.

For everyone else, here's another wave I did on a CS Black Talon. Oddly enough, it opens beer bottles perfectly and unintentionally.

Ahh man, Charlie Mike! Come on- unintentionally? Shoot... that's what I tell sheeple as a reason to carry a knife, while proceeding to open their bottles! Course, I'm using a delica for that purpose, but still... Need to get some more waves in the future in the bigger size. If I make it out to Cali, would you have a chance to show me some of your wave magic CM? This is one of the few areas I completely defer to you dude... :D

Zero

I'd be glad to. If you're ever in Fresno, CA... Be prepared for some BBQ, booze, and maybe some nice Dominican cigars. PM me for my number.

Actually, this offer stands for anyone here.

The top one looks like it was actually patterned after a bottle opener. And is it just the picture or is the second knife really that huge? It looks almost comical how big it appears in that pic.

Maybe its the way I'm holding it?

I just realized, that a good wave makes the use of the hook on some SAK's useless.
All you need is a little tighter grip on the blade and you can hook stuff to it.
