Custom Wooden Izula Scales

Looks great!
First thing I did with my BK-11, was putting a wooden handle on it. Totaly changes the knife.
Great job mate!

If you could put together a package like this (buy a new Izula and add these handles) I'd be very happy to buy it from you. One question: Does the standard sheath still fit it in this configuration?

I ask in this thread because it seems I cannot contact you through PM or email.

Nice! I wish I had skills...my projects always look like a kindergarten project.

I like the cocobolo alot.

How are they held on, with epoxy?

Obviously, I'm not the guy who did this, but I'd bet a limb it fits in the sheath just fine. My Izula's cord-wrapped right up to the throat of the sheath, and the cord just starts to cover the RAT logo etched into the blade. As there's plenty of room between the logo and the scales in the pic, I'll bet that puppy snaps right in to the sheath.

Man, that looks sweet. Great work. I WAS feeling good about my (YouTube-inspired) 360 wrap, but now I feel just plain inadequate.

You know, about my Izula's handle.

Not, ummm, anything else. :D

I agree, very nice work. I liked the fact you made several *different* styles, they each look very appealing.

Looks great!

Any chance you could take a picture of how you handled the interior, and how your screws attach?

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments! Yup, the sheath fits just fine. I took this pic with my phone but here's my Izula attached to my backpack I keep in my car.

BTW, here's another one that I made. Tried to make it look like the Coffin Style Bowie handles in Birds Eye Maple:

I used either brass or black machine screws and nuts. I am also considering gluing the two scales together to keep the lines uninterrupted. The problem there of course is they are permanent and I like to change them out based on what I'm doing and for variety.

Very simple, all I did was make a 0.156" piece of walnut (same thickness as the Izula) and create the triangular shape in the bones of the skeleton. From there, I used wood glue to one side and just put a machine screw through the whole thing with a brass nut on the other side.

Here's how it looked before finishing. I finish the insides too to avoid warping and moisture damage.

Very nice handles, every one. I bet the Cocobolo with an extra 3/4" is a nice comfortable handle.

I've been wanting to try making some for one of mine.

thanks for sharing, Les.
