A very nice individual has opened his shop to doing modifications to your favorite Spyderco's. He's Ron Cochran, and from what I can tell, he's going to be very busy once word catches on. I am currently awaiting the return of a couple Harpys I sent for traction grooves on the top of the blades.
If you'd like to check his home page, here's the link

Really nice work. I think his skills are worthy of something more than a Geocities free webpage though.

It would be nice if we could click and enlarge the pics.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a few Spydercos are going to be travelling over the ocean soon...:)

I also think that his work is worthy of more than just a Geocities site.

I'm sure that once Ron's business starts to pick up, he'll get another web page, but hey, we all need to start somewhere! And he's in start-up mode now.

Hawkbill,

Since you're a Gold member, perhaps you could get him to send you some more sample pics and you could post them at Bladeforums.

At least make sure you post your knife when you get it back so we can all "oooh" and "ahhh" and envy you! ;)

JJ, i'd be more than happy to help you out, I can even do a oversized style on SS and add a brass lining.
Thanks for the kind words all, i'm in it more for the love of the job than the money. Ron

I just got the Harpys back yesterday. Ron did a great job!

Hawkbill:

What was done to the scales? Were they drilled, stippled, or ???? I ask because my SS Native needs something for added grip, as well as dehorning of the underside.

That's stippling I did with a spring-loaded punch. In my conversations with Ron, he was considering offering a similar treatment to folks. If you try this yourself, please use extra care around the pivot pin, as it will peen the pin and cause slow opening/closing of the blade (if done too hard).

I liked Brian's effect, it gave alot of extra grip to the SS and he kindly shared his idea with me.
I'm working on a cpl SS project knives using this technique and marking grids evenly spaced apart.
I'll forward pics to him and post on the other Spyderco forum of this project. Thanks Ron

Hawkbill, I seriously hope those rounds are 45s, although they look a bit tall from the angle.
Ron, think you could enlarge the thumb hole for a Renegade? I don't mind if the hole may be covered by the scales, but I'd like to have it large like Enduras.

Calyth:
They're a couple of .40 cal Hydra-Shoks I had in my desk-drawer (doesn't everyone?). Ron offers widening opening holes as an option on his web page, too!

Sure i can Calyth, check out the Endura on my page.
It's hole has been beveled and enlarged to use with gloves.
Send me an email, id be glad to help you out. Ron

I have a Police with SS handles any suggestions on finishing them so that they dont show wear so bad? maybe that stipling or bead blasted? I'd like to do something to them.
