First off, hello everyone!
Im Bill, living in Middletown MD, Yep that Middletown...
I grew up right down the street from Mr Moran. Nice man.

Im not a knife maker, or will i be...last thing i need is a new hobby!
But i sure could see myself VERY interested in starting. Maybe there is
something in the water around here. :p

But what i do need is someone to build me a handle to my specs/design, including the Guard and back cap. As you can see, im not up on the lingo'
yet. :D

This knife is going to be my nephews Army boot camp grad gift. He is going in
Oct, and will be in the Signal Corps. 25Q.

The knife will be a Moran blank from Charlton Ltd ST-23, what else could it be
living in Middletown??? (unless somone has a used Org. one to sell around 1000.00! :D)

This man is one nice person DR Charlton.
So here is the idea for this gift.

The handle i need made will be Blackwood/Gabon Ebony. It will be in the shape as the Org. ST-23 from Moran. http://www.legendaryknifemakers.com/knives/Customs/moranbill/CustomHandmade/MorandamascusST23.php
Now the Guard and butt cap is my own idea. And i feel its fresh!
SO feel free to pay me a little fee when you use it! :D j/k
The guard will be a thin piece of blued metal in a oval pattern, dead flat.
Under this will be a thin piece of Albalone equal in size to the metal (flush mount front and back) but 1-2mm shorter length wise. Then another blued metal piece to complete the shell sand'wich!
The bottom will be the same but one side of cap will be all flush with the
grip. THe other side will stick out a little from the grip.
Only other thing on the grip will be a blue thin piece of mammoth Ivory to break up the grip and guard. Same on the bottom. Im back and forth on turning up the ends a little on the guard/butt cap. I've also been thinking about turning up the top metal piece of the guard (just the tips) and turning down the bottom tips (just the very tip, very little) I think this would give me
a flower effect with them. If it can be done, im also thinking about putting
a very small detailed engraving on the sides of the blued metal in all locations. slash-Dot-slash, the only way i want to do it is if it can be done in White. O' there needs to be one ivory oval in the grip, this is were
i will have the Signal Corps crossed flags and torch scrimed in. I think i will use the flat section up by the guard for this ivory piece. See grip pic up there.
Whew....I hope my description is good enough.

If you have an interest in picking up a few bucks, and helping bring my design idea to life, please let me know ASAP. I will need this done no later then DEC 1' this year...He is going to be very excited. He has NO clue about this, and is not really a tact. knife type of guy. This one he'll never see comming.

Thanks for the great site, and look forward to finding someone with the skills to do this for me. And please dont try to pry me into knife making, i dive into new hobbies like a crack whore, and my bankroll looks like a mammoth just steped all over it! :p:p:p
You people make some unreal knives!

Bill

Bill was a great guy. I may have met you up there.

I have a ST-23 blade forged by Bill Moran, and finished by me. I have all the provenance paperwork from Jay and the estate. The blade is stamped "FORGED BY BILL MORAN" on one side and " S.E. APELT"on the other. The blade is unhandled at this time. I also have Bill's templates for his ST-23 handles. I attached a quick and dirty photo.

I am not really interested in doing your handle design, but would sell you the bare blade if you want. Email me if interested.

you got mail!!
If i buy this blank, we can go ahead and throw my ideas out the window, and finish this one in a ST-23 fashion. I'll find someone to finish it, that was taught by him, or a expert
in his work.

Ok, EDIT...NM i see the messages go through real email it seems LOL, my bad,
