Heat coloring of Ti is pretty stinking durable. I have made keychain kubatons out of unknown grade Ti that I heat colored and after years of carry with no regard for the finish they remain decent looking. Maybe instead of being allowed to customize our knives we should just all be issued the same one .
Generally it doesn't increase in value and depends what mods are done and by who, it can decrease the value substantially and in some cases loose any warranty it had.Pimpin your stuff loses value? Hmmm, I've seen a plenty of old swords & knives with bling down at the museum. I guess when something is classified as "priceless", it's just junk. Ppppfffsssstttt.![]()
Plus I think it looks pretty dang cool and obviously is highly wear resistant.
Just need to find someone to do the milling/texturing first.![]()
Some will say it's a one of a kind so its worth more... But that's often just bs in order for them to offload it without loosing out on all the cash they spent on it. So if you mod it, don't expect to get more for it.
Looking to take a Sebenza and get some custom features done such as texturing, carving, anodizing, torching, etc.
Basically, taking the knife and making it into an EDC with some flair.
Something along the lines of a milder version of a Chris Martin knife (Phantom Steelworks), but without the drama that surrounds Mr. Martin.
Frank Recupero did a few knives for me, but he dropped off the face of the earth (at least in the knife world) about 15 years ago.
Anyone know of a RELIABLE and TRUSTWORTHY person doing such work today?
Kind of like this.........

Hey, brother! Long time no see!!! I still have the sheaths you made me around 17 years ago (Or around that time period). They're still going strong too, and do get carried.![]()
Why? Because I can. Pretty simple. I could give 2 shts about resale.
As for ruining the knife. Does CRK not put out countless knives with factory design work on them?
But thanks for putting in your less than 2 cents worth of comments.![]()
CRK’s custom shop does impeccable work and the secondary market likes them as the work is in-house. Since you don’t care about resale, do whatever makes you happy.
FWIW... I have anodized hundreds of knives....anodizing is very durable, but like anything its prone to snail trails and scuffs. Heat vs electro makes no difference, its all just an oxidation layer on the surface. Flame ano doesn't go any "deeper" in the material than electro anodizing. Both are susceptible oils from handling which can mute colors.
As far as adding value....I wouldn't count on it unless its done by a really popular maker, and even then it doesn't always make a difference. Its customization, and not all people see value in customizing production blades (as evidenced by some of the comments). In the end, if it puts a smile on your face, then go for it
