Customer Appreciation at Beaumont Metal Works

WOW thanks! In honor of this I give you the following:

Dirty-sounding things I love about my KMG:

-She is built like a tank but dainty as a deer when I need her to be.
-She is always looking for more to rub against.
-Ive spilled beer on her, bled on her, swore at her, slapped her and she never made a peep.
-When I slide my tooling arm into her, she loves it.
-When I grind up against her contact wheels, she purrs different than when I jam a rod into her platen.
-When I grease her pillow bearings, she moves so much better.
-She blows belts sometimes
-When I stand above her and look down at the job she is doing, I know she is the best at what she does.
-Her big motor makes my small wheel get hot.

Well, this thread did it... pulled the trigger and ordered a KMG. :D

Now I have to deal with the wife. ;)

It's better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission? LOL I do this all the time.

Anyway, Great deal Rob! Thanks!

Thanks Rob. Thats all I needed to kick me into gear on that new small wheel I been wanting. I'll be in touch.

Wishing you and yours a great holiday season and a great 09

Wahoo!!!

Some new contact wheels, a beveled 9" disc to complement the flat one I've already got, and a rotary platen for the KMG!!!

It will be interesting to see how the rotary platen for the KMG compares to the one I got from Rob for my Burr King.

Thanks so much Rob! I'm stoked :D

Just got an e-mail from Rob... KMG shipped out today. Now I just have to come up with a motor, VFD, and some place to mount it. Anyone ever tried to mount their KMG to a table-top with the motor mounted to the under-side of the table-top directly under the grinder?... with the belt passing through a slot? Seems like it might be a good way to hide the motor.

Anyway... I'd like to thank Rob for extremely prompt service and for the 10% off.

BTW... what kind of paint do you all use on your equipment?... Any recommendations for a readily-available heavy-duty spray paint.

Erin

You'll be glad you ordered it Erin!

I painted mine with blue and light grey Hammerite. It's held up very well.

Still need to paint the second one though :o

Nick, that grinder looks great! And you said my shop was clean! That is actually the spitting image of the color I painted my first truck. That is before I slammed it into a ditch at 80mph. Not much paint left after that Dukes of Hazzard ride.

Did you coat the tooling arm in anything?

Thanks Nathan! :)

80 into a ditch will ruin your day every time!!!

It's hard to tell in the pics, but I painted the tooling arms and base plate with the gray. I really like how it looks in person, but it just looks like bare metal in the pics. Here in WA, it would be a nice copper, rusty color by now if I hadn't painted it. ;)

I was a little concerned about the paint getting stripped right off of the tooling arms when sliding them in/out of the chassis, but the paint has held up very well. From my experience, the only way to get a more durable paint job for shop equipment is to go to a 2 part epoxy paint... and that's a whole lot more involved.

That's a good looking grinder Nick.

Is Hammerite sold in any of the big stores or is it something that needs to be ordered special?

From the picture, it looks like you're not driving that thing with the motor/VFD combo sold by Rob. Where did you pick up your motor and VFD? What make are they and are you happy with them?

Erin

Erin, you can get it at just about any hardware store, home stores (Home Depot, Lowes), even WalMart.

I have to correct myself though. The paint I used is actually Hammered Finish Rustoleum. It's the same exact idea as Hammerite... just a different brand and slightly different color choices. Available at the same places. :)

As per the motor/controller, I think it's just the pic...cuz I got the whole package from Rob. The 3hp model I have (also the one Rob sells) has a digital counter on the VFD, and it's just cool as hell :D

I hope you guys all post pics once you get your machines set up!!! :D

Saw a picture of someone doing this on the forums a couple of years ago. He seemed very happy with it.

Yes, because the motor is not integrated into the grinder, you have tons of choices and options...not only what motor to use.....but where to mount it. This is a major aspect of the design principle of the KMG...Versitility.
