Customer Appreciation GAW - Winner!

I received the knife in the mail today, she's a real beauty. It feels good in my hand. I like how the grind lines and handle shaping come out so clean, you are really good at what you do John. My wife likes it also, so we might have to share. I'll be cutting leather maybe starting next week, so stay tuned.
Thanks for the gaw.

Made this sheath for my new JK GAW knife, Ostrich leg inlay, fully lined cowhide.
Thanks again John.

That looks amazing! Is there any risk of the lining bubbling up along the non-stitched edge when you fold it over?

Beautiful!!

I was showing off your baldrick rig for the DBH at Blade, people were impressed.

I notice you changed your logo - all of my Darkmatter stuff has the meteor logo....

The lining won't bubble because of the bond with the contact cement. If done right you would have to tare the fibers loose from the leather to separate the piece. The way I bond leather, flesh side to skin side or flesh side to flesh side is to first rough up the skin side of the piece. Than glue both pieces, let tack up then another coat of glue and let tack up. Press the pieces together than let it set over night to cure. It is not real necessary to put two coats onto the skin side but I do. A technique that I use is to add about 10-15 percent thinner to my cement, it's purpose is to help it absorb deeper into the fibers of the leather along with the second coat of cement. also I like to let it cure overnight, the leather can be worked in a couple on hours but a good cure never hurts.
With that being said, the lining will wrinkle when folded which will not affect the strength of the sheath at all. Different lining material will wrinkle to different degrees. Cow hide is the stiffest and hardest to work with, but it is durable. I also use calf, pig, and deer lining. Deer is the easiest and is stretchy. One thing that I don't do is to gouge a crease down the center where it folds. It will fold easier but you will loose some integrity of the leather.
Always glad to answer any questions

Thanks Andy,
I really like my meteor logo but I changed it for a more professional look and it is smaller to fit on smaller sheaths. I will still use it at times or for special request.:)
