Customer Satisfaction

I've been self employed for many year so just a little business wisdom if not just my two cents..
for what ever reason, Terry isn't answering ,,
you guess why, I don't know and I'm not going to assume why?
but it is his problem as a business man for sure.

but trying to contact him through a forum is not the way to do it or straighten it out.
Bob might tell you that?

Bob Knows I knew what happened directly after he posted the problem
so I am aware of the biggest part of problem if not all of it
if I wasn't Bob can say so here..I won't mind.

I emailed Bob on the subject at that time.
that's all I need to say about that.

If I had or have a big concern over this (now thing) I'd be on the horn with Terry
but he's a big boy,
and if he's a hard learner that way what can I say, but other than do not order steel
over the web with them use the phone there has never been a breach in that
aria
the web master thing is like a doctor, you can take his word to the grave.. why?
I'm going to shut up..

Terry, 2 weeks seems like a long time to wait for your order to even be shipped but thats what I was told today when I tried to order steel, if other problems like sending the wrong steel and getting secure on-line ordering working are fixed I may grin and bear it in the future but too many complications make me look elsewhere.

Has anyone heard any reply from Terry since his original post??

I don't think Terry is real familiar with forums, or computers in general, and
I doubt he will ever find these two threads.

He originally posted them in the Community forums, and Cougar moved them to Shoptalk.

Terry should be able to find these threads. I gave him links leading him where to post it in each of the forums. He ended up posting in a few of the wrong areas anyway (had to register and then ended up in the wrong place to post, I would guess) but they were moved to the right areas by the moderators.

I also explained how to search for "Admiral" to find all posts referring to Admiral. He has already searched and read all of the past threads prior to posting this thread.

I advised him not to let more than five posts go by (in any of the forums)without posting his own reply. Maybe they are too busy selling steel to get over here. I have not seen a reply since this post in any of the forums.

I would hope he would reply pretty soon.

Sorry it took a while to respond to your message.

I have been tied up with contract negotiations with our shop Teamster

union during this past week and have not had the chance to go through

the forums until late yesterday.

I showed your message to our computer people and was told that one

could get to this part of the total system but there is no credit card info

there to see.

Anyone entering the on-line section is immediately informed that the

system is shut down until further notice.

Thank you

Terry

While they might be technically correct about 'credit card data', the type of information that is exposed hackers use to break into systems. Basically, people should not be able to see ANYthing other than your web pages. Letting them browse around directories isn't a good plan.

BTW keeping credit card numbers anywhere just isn't right. I like vendors that ask me everytime I order.

All the best,

Steve

Sando:

you are absolutly correct..

Terry:

To make a good comparison.. would you leave your windows shades open,
and the lights on, when you are on vacation.. ?? technically you have an alarm, but you are still showing the theives what they could take..

in this day and age, if you are going to be doing any sort of online commerce you have to go all out and protect the site.. you are correct in that "right now" there is no store (with CC's) but you need to show that you are taking even the basic security steps. a good example would be..

why would I trust you with my CC number (through online ordering) if you can't even do the most basic security steps for a simple web site??

Terry:

If you are interested, I would be willing to help you guys out with your security, once you get the site up and running. I'd be more then willing to do a external security check (Don't tell me anything about the site, I'll figure it out exactly like an hacker would..)

if you are interested let me know.. it would be good for all us here in the knifing (is that a word??) community to know that the site would be secure..

Terry:

I'm just checking back over some old posts, and I've noticed that there are still a lot of outstanding questions, and comments people have made from both Blade Forums and the CKD forums.

I was under the impression that you were taking an active role it getting more involved with the forums, and trying to answer questions or concerns..

over the last month there have been only about 6-7 posts across both forums, from you , and most were posts about sales, or statements on what happened.. many people are still waiting to head back on questions that have asked you.. any plans on responding?

wtf123 who are you?
you don't sign your post, your profile has nothing?
and you've been here for 70 posts as of today..
and who are these guy's you say, are still waiting?
I am not one of them.

I've met Terry,, you I have not the pleasure .
but you offer your help, if you really what to help, call Terry
at 1-800-323-7055. I don't think anyone has lynched him yet.
badgering here don't seem to be doing you much good :footinmou

The reason I have nothing in my userid/profile has to do with past differences of opinion with the moderators of this forums. yes THIS ID only has 70 posts, but this was not my original ID, my original one was banned because I casually mentioned I had a knife for sale (no details, no price, jsut a response to someones question) and I was banned for it, even after paying my subscription fee. originally I choose not to participate in this forums, and then I asked myself, why should I punish myself for this. I created a new ID, and choose not to put any info in it.. when I feel that the moderators (don't confuse this with the posters) have something to offer, then I will create a new one, and maybe pay the subscription fee.

I don't offer any excuses, or any plans to change it yet.. you wanted to know, so that was the reason

If you want I can cut and paste all the posts from both forums so you can see everyone who has not received a response from Terry, but I they are all available via the search on both forums. look at them,. and you will see one a SINGLE response (other then the original posting) the Terry has ever done (to one of my comments actually)

I'll let these numbers speak to themselves.

CKD 3 posts total of 23 replies, not a single one of them from Terry to anything asked or stated in any of them.
BF 4 posts total of 49 replies, only a SINGLE reply to my post.

if you really want I can go through each one, and give you each person that was expecting an response and got NONE.

I am not one of them.

Dan, There are several reasons why I have not put in the effort to try and give Terry a Call. The first, is my back ground.. I am an internet consulting by trade, and for me, my primary means of contact (for everyone not just knife related stuff) is the internet, Emails, Forums etc..

Secondly. This is a "public" problem, which has a lot of visability. and eveyone has a right to see what or if Terry is trying to fix it.. me talking to him privatly, won't show that. you may noy see it this way, but in a small way I'm trying to help him out, in a whay that everyone can see it, (via readin this forum) I know you think I am trying to give him a hard time, and in some ways I am (and I don't appologize for it) I've done years of internet security, there are many people who think it can be solved by ignoring it, or hiding it, or just solving it privatly. I am NOT of this opinion, and I believe that if Terry wants to fix it properly, he needs to show everyone that he is a) trying b) fixed it. the only way that I can see him doing that is by responding publicilly to these forums (the reason he joined them in the first place)..

He has said in the first post "In addition, we have also decided to take a more active ...." which to me, meant that he was going to try and be more open and respond publicly to what was brought up.. maybe I was completly wrong, and if I am, then maybe Terry and let me know..

Dan:

I don't want it to seem like I am trying to hide, using this userid, and as such, I'll be more open as well....

My name is Darryl Burke, I started making knives about 2 years ago from a) just chanign handles on factory knives, b) from kits c) from preground blades.
I have recently started to make them from scratch, (Started with O1) and have been making my own tools to do it (built my own forge, and my own grinder).

if you want to see some of my work, you can go to my web site at
Custom Knife Creations

I'm from the Toronto area, so I mostly stick around the canadian section of these forums..

if you have any questions/comments, you can post them here (I will respond) or you can email me at darryl@customknifecreations.com

well Darryl I do thank you for opening up and for you're opinions .
, we both are entitled to them.
the problem of bringing things to the public is liability, so I shy away from that.
One wants to be careful of the way things get worded
you know how lawyers can be.
I'm sure Terry is aware of the consequences of his actions, so
I do believe if one wants my help after an offer, great, if not
I'll not beat the horse any longer, and let live their way.
of course this is only MOHO :)

wtf123,
I don't recall banning you from this forum. I did a search on your name and saw where you were shown banned back in Sep 2003 on a thread in the Canadian connection.
Do you have a link to where DDR or I banned you from this forum?

it's wasn't DDR your yourself it was someone else. (Cougar) . (From the Canadian forum)
it seemd the he was on some bit of a crusade at the time to ban "sellers" as I wasn't the only one it happened to on that day..

Edit: BTW: Thanks for checking on the old account. and for asking about the situation. ..

It's interesting to see the other guy's viewpoint....

From our viewpoint, we are on a permanent crusade to keep advertising out of the discussion forums. I actually banned Darryl Burke for it twice, and twice chose to overlook it when I saw he'd come back under a new name. I was hoping the idea of no ads in the discussion forums had gotten through to him. I noticed his current identity a couple of months ago and decided to let it go as long as he behaves himself.

Interesting thread, and an excellent caveat to why one should always be reluctant or at least aware of the pitfalls of internet transmission of CC#'s, despite the designation "https". I thus prefer to glean the info off the web and then use an 800 number to place the order. Even then, it is wise practice to ask whether one's credit card number is being stored for future reference. I don't like being told "Oh, no need to tell us your number, we have it on file!" Caveat emptor!

Terry, if you are reading these posts, and don't mind the interjection of an off-topic question, I have the following:

Is Admiral doing anything to correct the plate-shearing problem of producing pieces of steel that look like a sidewinder rattlesnake, with more curves than flat? A 7-foot bar of S30V is an expensive raw material if the stock arrives so "un-straight". It has to be straightened and should be stress-relieved in small blade-length segments prior to use to insure a straight blade when heat treated, adding steps for a maker who owns a furnace, and creating substantial difficulties for those trying to use the steel if they don't have the HT equipment.

Noting that this hasn't occurred for me when ordering directly from Crucible, I conclude it is a technique problem in your shop.

I would also like to repeat, but do not expect a public response, a comment I made on a different thread, regarding the fact that a young man subordinate of yours laughed when I complained about the quality of my last purchase. There was no offer to correct it. I would at least hope you can correct this behavior so we can get better customer service in the future.

I am in close geographic proximity to Admiral, and would prefer to order from relatively "local" suppliers. However, until I can see some public efforts to convince the knifemaking community of improvements in both process and customer service, I feel bidden to take my business elsewhere.

Thanks, all, for hopefully tolerating my off-topic post regarding Admiral. I simply wanted to remind that there are other additional issues than just the website.

Hey! they fixed their webiste security issue!! Check this out, kinda makes me RELLY REALLY want to buy from them again, there are supposedly other messages posted in various places.

www.admiralsteel.com/products

fyi that link was posted by another forumite recently on the CKD to show that Admiral had yet to correct their website issues. It was only after it was posted that Admiral left that kind and thoughtful message to those who were more than likely checking to see if their information was still not posted.

we must have been a big pain in some web heads arse right? :D
I wonder if Terry knows his web site manager did that :(
since it's hired out.

I was the one that brought up the issue on CKD as well... and it would seem that they fixed "this" issue.. wonder if they fixed the other ones too..
