You know you're getting old when you can remember the traveling salesman coming around that sold you seed. I remember when I was a kid we had a salesman that would come around every so often and do just that, plus sell hardware and anything else you needed for the farm or farmhouse - anything from a stovepipe to a mule collar.
Just last week I was trying to find replacement fire brick, brick retainers and liners for my wood heater (getting ready for winter) and had to go through several companies and make a bunch of phone calls before I could even find the parts. People just don't use this stuff anymore and it's the only way I heat in the winter. Anyway, that made me think about the salesman that we use to have come around and you could order anything like this directly from him. Nowadays f you can't find it at Wal-Mart then you're screwed. Very few General Stores left in this country.
Man, the good ol' days!
