Customised full height convex BK-2 WIP

Sorry for digging this up but I've been lazy and haven't been updating this WIP nor taking any progress pics but...

I was originally planning on making some camo canvas micarta scales but figured I'd give that a miss when I dug these factory 'carta ones up. What do you guys reckon for a sheath? I thought about giving that a miss too and just ordering one of the new BK-22 nylon sheaths but if I have the time I might squish out a kydex one...What color would you pick? Kinda thinking chocolate brown but I don't have any so its a choice between coyote brown, OD, black, woodland digi cam and orange.

The gun blue finish is holding up decently and I do find the blade overall more user friendly (for me) in terms of slicing ability but it also keeps that thickness for battoning.

Nice job. For the sheath I'm thinking... leather. Failing that, coyote brown Kydex.

I have one of the older black leather Condor Toloza sheath that fits the 2 well enough...*Sigh* I really gotta pick up some leather working skills and see if I can make kydex sheaths with some kinda leather carry option.

Pretty cool Cam. I know there's a lot of work right there.

not sure how i missed this. Great mod, Cam. The 2 is a perfect candidate for a regrind, i may have to buy one just so i can do this too. The finished product looks great, thanks for sharing.

Very nice mode, Cam! I've been looking at my BK2 lately, trying to decide how to make it more useful for me, short of getting a BK10 and shelving the 2.

Did you use a sander or files to do the flat grind?

so how well does it cut compared to the original?

I had 2 regular BK-2s prior to this and could barely cut a thing so after several attempts at reprofiling I got pissed off and ground them up into some other stupid looking blades. I knew somewhere in there was a good knife but I just couldn't quite find it though my 3rd attempt probably came closet to what I was after. Oh and back to your original question, I do find it more nimble in the hand and easier to make things like feathersticks with. Before it just felt like a wedge coming in at too steep an angle.

Thanks Nate, I used a belt sander with 60 and 80 grit zirconia belts then sanded it a couple times before blueing with some abrasive scotch-brite stuff and steel wood.

Tman, Summit...Appreciate the positive feedback guys :).

The 1/4" thickness of the BK2 blade gives you quite a bit of metal to get exactly the right contour to your blade. So far so good. Do you plan to use a micro bevel? On a BK2 that I convexed 3 years ago I did not convex the entire blade, just the beveled portion of the blade. That thing kept a razor edge and only needed an occasional strop.

On post #21 you should be able to see the secondary bevel on the knife which is sort a semi-convex and actually the original edge bevel just slightly convexed over. I've tried convexing just the edge on previous BK-2s without much success so when I saw a really nice deal on BK-2 I figured I'd pick it up and give it one last go to see if I can actually make the knife into something I like.
