.... A custom knife based on the "USA Design 2008" counterfit knife. Now that's just sad.......
The market has become so saturated with counterfits that even the customizers don't know they are fake......

note: I have edited some of my text in this thread in view of the makers comments.

Not sure I would call this "counterfit" as the picture shows a knife marked USA DESIGN. Does it say Buck anywhere? I don't approve of knockoffs at all, but this one seems to copy the style but not claim is it a Buck.

you got a point its up to Yellow Horse to go after them....good luck with that though, if theres just one slight difference they may be in the clear....I'm a musician also besides artist an photographer its a age old thing copyright an what makes a strong case........music is even harder to get copy right in the originality of a song and who wrote it and did they take enough elements of your song to gett damages for copy right infringement. Art is also the same way.

If I remember correctly? David has worked with a few knife companies over the years. Not just Buck knives.

The "USA DESIGN 2008" knife sells on the internet with a fake Buck marked sheath and is always advertised as a "BUCK" knife. It's one of the more blatant counterfits as it is marketed as a Buck knife but is not a copy of an actual Buck model. Granted the knife itself does not say Buck but the sheath it comes in does. I did not copy the ad content but the above knife is promoted as a BUCK knife.....

Now that is just sad. I don't know who to put the blame on. The people making these knives and promoting them as made in USA or by a USA company, or the individuals who buy them that know better. I have even seen remarks on this forum where individuals have bought a knife knowing it is a copy because they liked the style of the knife for the price. Doing that just gives them more reason to keep making them. Some are hard to tell they are copy's or the buyer just dosn't know what they are buying. Heck I have a few copy's in my collection that I bought thinking they were originals.

The above custom is based on this $10 Chinese Buck counterfit...
The custom version is being offered on a $499.99 buy-it-now.....

search under "buck saber survival knife"

They're selling like hotcakes.

The seller selling the knives as pictured is selling out of the USA but there are many more of the same knife being sold out of China as well.

Read the negative feedback comments the seller put on there. From the verbiage I think we are able to guess his heritage.

wow I'am totally stunned how may places are selling these.......swoosh! as the song goes sitting on the dock of the bay, as freighter after freighter ports each day. Each seller has at least 20-25 listings many models!.....all different knock offs. Its crazy!

The problem is, they are selling. although cheep. They are making their way into the hands of the individuals that do not know what they are buying and they will leave a bad taste in their mouth about Buck Knives and end up being passed around to others as well and they are junk. Brian Yellowhorse should not be supporting them IMO.

Knowledge and awareness are key.

I'm with you brotha, I would be totally ticked off if I ended up with one. I couldn't believe how many an different styles. Its a flood an did you see the names of the sellers? Unbelievable! it was way more models than just this model.... buck saber survival knife

I talked to my father David Yellowhorse today. And he brought it to my attention that there was counterfeit Buck knives out in the market and that I had customized 5 of them. He said there was a thread on blade forums about the counterfeit Buck knives that I customized. I apologize to Buck Knife Company for customizing these knock off counterfeit buck knives. I feel bad for knife makers that are having their knives counterfeited. I had no idea that they were fakes. The way I received the counterfeit Buck knives is that I had a customer that sent them to me to be customized. And they had Buck sheaths. The person that I will not name, should have known better than to send me counterfeit Buck knives to be customized. I do not support counterfeit Buck knives. I am sorry that I customized counterfeit Buck knives. It will not happen again. Brian Yellowhorse

Brian Its so easy to end up [dirty] now adays its not funny, and also in the past too! My ancestor Rebecca Nurse was caught up in a net with many others when a group of hysterical girls an greedy opportunist "who wanted her land" declared Rebecca a witch and hung her and others at the Salem Witch Trials. Best Wishes to you and your dad.......

JUST TO GET A GLIMPSE OF HOW PREVALENT IT HAS BECOME ITS NOW A COTTAGE INDUSTRY:

*Federal and local authorities raided the Grandview Flea Market in Derry, N.H., several years ago and arrested three men they say were selling counterfeit designer purses and wallets. Those arrests were the culmination of a two-year investigation into the sale of counterfeit goods at the flea market at 2 Island Pond Road.

Two Chinese nationals were later convicted of selling fake handbags and other counterfeit goods imported from China at the Grand View Flea Market.

LAWRENCE MASSACHUSETTS— Police, joined by agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, arrested 40 people for selling counterfeit items at two flea markets yesterday.

“This is an effort to support local, legitimate businesses who have complained of these individuals selling bogus merchandise,” Interim Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said of the sweep last night.

“Over the course of several months, we targeted individual selling counterfeit goods and counterfeit intellectual property. Our investigation culminated with the arrests of over 40 people involved in selling these illicit items,” he said. “In recent history, I believe this is probably the largest raid in Massachusetts involving counterfeit goods.”

The raids began at about 11 a.m. yesterday and lasted through late afternoon. The raids took place at Don Flea Market at 85 Manchester St., and Lawrence Flea Market and Auction House at 468 N. Canal St, near the Falls Bridge, according to Fitzpatrick. The Police Department used several vans, some of them loaned by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, to transport the defendants to the Lawrence Police Department, where they were being booked last night.

Fitzpatrick said he believed that most of those charged were from out of town.

“The Department of Homeland Security was the lead with Lawrence Police Department,” said Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office.

“We were part of the investigation and we will prosecute,” she said.

Police referred all comments on the raid to federal authorities. Calls to the U.S. Attorney’s office and Homeland Security were not returned.

Fitzpatrick said federal agents planned to wait until tomorrow before issuing a press release about yesterday’s raids.

“There’s a great deal of evidence that needs to be cataloged,” Fitzpatrick said of the items seized. Some of the counterfeit items sold were fake lines of clothing, he said.

Continued)

This is the latest in a series of crackdowns on local flea markets across the county launched by Homeland Security agents in recent years.

Federal and local authorities raided the Grandview Flea Market in Derry, N.H., several years ago and arrested three men they say were selling counterfeit designer purses and wallets. Those arrests were the culmination of a two-year investigation into the sale of counterfeit goods at the flea market at 2 Island Pond Road.

Two Chinese nationals were later convicted of selling fake handbags and other counterfeit goods imported from China at the Grand View Flea Market. A third man, who faced nearly identical charges, was found not guilty.

The safety risks of buying fake goods are real, experts say.

Counterfeit goods, or knockoffs, are different from the cheaper imitation versions found at major retailers, like Wal-Mart or Target, in that those retailers sell items that follow Consumer Safety Product Commission guidelines.

Fakes usually are smuggled into the country unregulated; nearly 80 percent come from China, according to U.S. Customs officials.

Safety risks include fake batteries that contain mercury, electrical products that don’t meet safety standards, perfumes found to contain urine and high alcohol content, and clothing made with toxic dyes and flammable materials.

While cosmetics are generally not subject to pre-market approval, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration restricts the use of certain ingredients and requires warning labels. Legitimate manufactures can be fined or face other enforcement action if they don’t comply.

And if the potential health risks don’t scare buyers, the economic risks and potential terror funding should, said Robert Barchiesi, president of the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition.

“You support organized crime, gang activity, and terrorist organizations that use this as a funding mechanism,” he said.

Barchiesi estimates the U.S. economy loses out on at least $200 billion in revenue and 750,000 jobs a year from counterfeit sales.

“This isn’t a victimless crime,” Barchiesi added.

A man who answered the phone at Don Flea Market said “I am not at liberty to talk about this right now” and then hung up the phone.

No one at Lawrence Flea Market could be reached for comment last night.

Thank you Brian for letting the Buck knife community here on the forums know what happened. It sucks that this counterfeit crap makes a knife customizer have to be on guard as to who/what is sent to them to customize. Brian I would suggest you contact your customer and demand they remove the Buck name from their auctions to protect your good name and reputation.

In the end this is being done by unscrpulous sellers trying to make the most money they can squeeze out of unsuspecting folks! Here is a closed auction and I was hoping these were not being marketed with misleading verbage, however that is not the case "Buck Fans".
