Customized My Dodo!

Dirk, I absolutely love the idea of a yojimbo type blade on a dodo handle. That would be really awesome. How do you like the ergonomics of the knife after you did the mod? I can't seem to put mine down now, I love it that much! It really fits my hand great now. What a great knife Spyderco!!!

Thanks, Heath

Your right on. The modified Dodo fits the hand great! No hot spots and you can get a good grip in almost any position without having any part of the handle getting in the way.

I'm playing with an idea to remount a clip. However, this thing feels so goo with out it, I might not bother.

Hey Sal! If you're still watching this topic, what about a knife with this handle and a Yojimbo type blade? Very utilitarian and still could fall into an MBC role. :)

I moded my Dodo today, I kept the clip and cut furrows by using a dental burr in a Dremel. Oh and I slipped a couple of times. I put a washer under the screw as my hole was less precise then factory.

I have to say I dont like it. The Dodo's handle, although very long, doesn't seem oversized or bulky. this one does. The tail improves the grip as well, I'd miss that. I think it kinda defeats the purpose, you might as well buy a SS cricket and put g10 slabs on it

I wanted it to fit in my watch pocket which it did but stuck out quite a ways. U

It's been mentioned before, a heavy duty cricket is an idea that I like. A G-10 cricket with a Dodo blade would be nice!

Good for you Dave! I did mine a few weeks back,I cut off the point and rounded the back of the handle.Grip is still great, and I love the fact that I can drop it in my pocket with ease now.

I'm not held to any silly blade limit, and for me this was a second or third knife I carried and the others had big handles BUT blades to match. That handle is longer wider and heavier then a Delica so it went on a diet.

Good effort on the mod, but I think I actually like the original handle better than these chopped up ones. Of course, the proof is in how it feels, not how it looks. Dodo handle fits me like someone at Spyderco took a cast of my hand and molded it right from that!

Just a tip: if you're screwing around with G-10 do it where you have good ventilation and DEFINITELY use a respirator. Last thing you want is small glass fibers and dust in your lungs, ya dig? If you're just sanding it, use wet/dry sandpaper and keep it really wet so you make a mess instead of a bunch of dust and you'll be fine.
