Hows everyone doing?
Just wondering if any of you guys know how to go about purchasing a customized SAK or getting one customized? Thanks

Rob

I don't think it would be terribly hard to customize one.

I've heard the original handle scales can be pried off and that throwing it in boiling water will weaken the glue a little bit. After that, all you'd really need to do is shape some scales out of some material and either epoxy the scales to the liners or drill and tap the liners to fasten the scales with screws. I'm not certain how to go about making the toothpick/tweezer holes though. You'd just have to see how the original scales retain them and carve out a similar hole in the new scales.

Lately I've been brewing a plan to customize an SAK with carbon fiber scales. But the only problem is that I don't have any use for one, since I already have a SOG Powerlock. I'd only be lying to myself if I say I need one for use around sheeple.

The Victorinox scales are held on/push fit (no glue) with hidden rivet heads.

Also they flex to hold the toothpick - try this - pinch the handles hard above the toothpick and try to extract it......

So another means has to be devised if the new customized handles are to be more firmly fixed like epoxy.

Here's a website showing customized SAKs:

Also both Victorinox and Wenger make SAKs with special handles:

If you just want some color choices check out the replacement scales at http://www.pizzini.at/. They will fit any of the larger non-locking Victorinox knives, including the SwissChamp and SwissChamp XLT. The scales are made by Victorinox and are fairly easy to swap out. My SwissChamp XLT wears blue. :D
