The ZT0301 that I had being worked on is back home. While I already really liked this knife I wanted a more aggressive blade design instead of the "shovel-look" it has stock.
After pages and pages of designs drawn up and tossed I decided on the one seen below. I wanted to make it pointier by removing some stock from the fat rounded top swedge area of the kinfe.
Enter Tom Krein.
The man took my crude drawings and with some correspondence back and forth he more than delivered on what I wanted. I was prepared for the top edge to be flat from grinding/re-profiling and was OK with that but Tom said he could put a swedge back on. It's a longer one and looks absolutely RIGHT!
I also had him bead-blast it to remove the tiger stripes because with the excess stock removed the stripes were not gonna look right. I decided to leave the recurve in because One, it cuts like a mutha...and Two, Tom would have had to regrind up the blades side..and I wanted to keep it stock looking.
I think he did a fantastic job on re-profiling this ZT.
I also had a custom sheath made by Dave Abramson (Lifters Leather). The ZT0301 is a hefty piece and it carries better(for me) in a pouch on the belt than in the pocket. He also did a great job.
Thanks guys!
Here's a stock ZT0301 pic first...for comparo:
