Looks like quite a bit of material was taken off the blade - does it open considerably faster now that the spring is pushing less??

Not that much steel was removed actually. Just the top bump that made the blade "shovel-like". But yeah...even that little bit made it faster some.
It doesnt feel lighter though...and the balance in hand is good.

To me, it feels and looks and performs like a factory designed knife.
