I am doing this job for a good friend here at blade forums.. using layered G-10 in black and blue.. I Removed about 20 thousandths of an inch by hand.. Starting with rough sand paper and moving up to 500 Grit trying to bring out the colors..
The lock side was blasted.. The blade still needs to be polished and it will have a low rider clip installed. And I will reblast everything again.. The G-10 was also blasted to even out the color tone..
Just need to take it apart and do the finishing touches and then I will post good pics...
This thing is much lighter now.. And looks great.. The blade just needs some cleaning...
I will be making a few more to get rid of while I have the material..
Its really fun to do..
Thanks
Matt

The blue coloring is off a little bit in the last picture.. its a happy medium..

That looks excellent, nice work

It would also look good with a bolster in Ti or CF I think.

Yeah.. I might be doing some orange G-10 or micarta next...
But Im going to make a couple more out of this material in different designs and patterns..
Thanks for the positive feedback.. It helps...

looks good, one thing i like about the ATR though is how thin it is and the G10 is gonna add some width to it, i wouldnt do that to mine but hey if ya like it good for you..........

The G-10 isn't over the SS scale, it replaces the SS scale. I believe the G-10 scale is about the same thickness as the SS one it replaces, so it should be the same width, but a bit lighter.

I like the mod. Would be nice to try an ATR with a G10 scale. Good work!

The g-10 added zero width.. By the time I got the colors to come out.. It was the same thickness as stock... Anybody that throws a handle on one of these is doing it a favor.. Atleast on the ss versions....

Looks very nice. Can't say I'm a fan of SS or Ti as a handle material, so this would make a spectacular production knife.

Thank you sir... for the compliment..
The knife is all done besides the clip now.. And as soon as that is on.. I should have some nice pictures up..
That way I get a shot of all the dimension's..
Thanks
Matt

really, i didnt think about doing it like that, that is cool, i give ya my stamp of approval, for whatever thats worth lol, i dont think i have ever seen anyone do a compression lock like that.

Really gorgeous! That layered G-10 is just some of the neatest stuff out there and you've done a great job of exploiting it's potential.Like the bead blast too.
I have one of these with plain black g-10 as a scale/side replacement - great knife and a lot lighter - but this one's visually a knock out.

I would like a thinner layer of G-10 mounted over the stainless however for those who crave/need lightweight this looks like a great idea

Yeah.. Both ideas would work... The liner over the steel would get the nod in overall streangth.. And the g-10 alone give's it weight loss.. But is not weak by any means..
Im sure as I go on with this type of work.. People are always going to do things differently.. I will probably disagree with some of the work I do...
But whatever makes em happy..

I was debating doing the same thing.
Seeing how it turned out, I might just have to, next time I order new knife parts.
