Customizing my Rat-4

I have learned alot from Stormdrane’s blog. This is the basic cobra stitch/Solomon bar/Portuguese sinnets, but done with two colors. Their are various ways to join the two colors together, I believe on the blog he explains how to.

Thanks greyhound! I was wondering if it was the cobra stitch... but all the other ones looked wide. I've found through reading that it depends if you used gutted paracord/tighter knots. Stormdrane definitely has some wicked stuff

Hey, thanks to greyhound for this plug. I am the guy who did the recurve for him. The 1095 steel on those RAT's takes an impossibly wicked edge and polishes up nicely. I can take care of any of your folks needs. My primary email is jmarshall14@wi.rr.com or kdholydiver666@gmail.com

I have sharpened many many many blades for folks on quite a few different forums. This is my youtube vid on it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eREokC4MPM0

Best regards,

Jeff

I heard alot about your work TwinBlade Thumbs up I heard, I've a few Member's thinking about getting a sander, is the 1"x30" belt a better one to get? I may some day pick one up!

Greyhound , Where did you get the custom scales. On Ebay, what kind of answer is that?

I guess it all depends on the amount of work you want, or shall I say "need" the sander to do. I have sharpened lawnmower blades, badly dented ax's, splitting wedges and mauls and many many knives with that little one that I have. The absolute key is a SHARP cutting belt. Worn belts, no matter how aggressive they may feel to your skin, do not cut hardened steel well and build up a lot of heat. They sharper or newer the belt, the better it will obviously cut, that is why I am ok with a small and inexpensive belt sander. If you wanted to make a knife out of rectangular bar stock, you will be there an awful long time though.:D If you wanted to reprofile a badly abused knife and make it full convex, it will do that as well, just takes a bit longer. See before and after pics of what I did to a customers knife. Fortunately it had a wide spine and a shallow height hollow grind that made fully convexing possible. Even at that, the grind was too deep to fully remove enough stock at the back of the blade on one side as you can see:thumbup:

greyhound352, I also have a RC-4 with serrations that I would like taken off. How much did they charge for regrinding and convexing your 4. Also, did you send it off or did you take to someone nearby your home. Also can you recommend a place to take my knife and have this done. I am from St. Louis, MO but I am currently mobilized in the DC area with the reserves, just as a frame of reference if you know any places near either of those cities, thanks and your knife looks great! Also if anybody else can answer this feel free to give your input as well.:)

You can contact Jeff (TwinBlade) in post 23, he is the one that re-profiled my knife. Jeff has a fast turnaround and he does a great job.
