I plan to get two more LE's so when I kick the bucket,or possibly never come home from work all 3 of my grown kids will have one.IMHO our economy will never be what in once was in my lifetime. My son came home a 100% disabled vet,and I cherish the memories of all the great times hunting and fishing together when he was a kid.Who ever would have thought Winchester could disappear. For awhile now sometimes on Saturdays,I stop at the little roadside flea markets in rural NM and buy old American made tools cheap.Never in my wildest dreams would I've believed my country could be in massive debt to communist China! The same country that supplied the VC Rats.Every time I buy a new USA made Buck Knife it helps ease my anger for awhile. Please excuse the rantings of an old man.

Soooooo, does this mean you use the limited or custom knives? :D

Actually, I do have a couple of LE's that I am going to start using (lightly). They had been carried when I got them and don't have the boxes or COA's so why not.

Thanks, but I'm just a beginner! Truth is, I'm so disorganised, I don't even know how many Bucks I have. It must be close to 400 now.

Nope don't use LE's or customs,I have a #1 Randall that's never been used. With all the fantastic production knives these days,no need to use a LE or custom.I'm not a collector, just a guy that wants to leave a few works of art to my kids when I'm gone.

I was saying I'd never use a gold etch knife, so you pull up two gold etch knives you say you are going to use. I guess it's different if they already have been used. But in my case, I'd like to have backups of each before I'd use them, even if they were used. :)

I wouldn't use a gold etched blade, even if I had two of them the same... But I would use a custom or a LE's knife though....

Yeah, I think I have to agree. Before I'd put the gold etch blade to use I'd be thinking "I have other blades of the same steel that aren't etched, why not use those instead." I doubt I could ever bring myself to use a gold etch blade, unless the gold etching was already badly marred from use. But even then, I 'd consider it an unnecessary scenario.

You should not use those two. You can ask Joe H. for a letter of authenticity that's just as good as a COA to me. You can also get Leroy to buff those bolsters for you, he will be at the show next week ask Leroy what he thinks;)
However, they are your's Dave and you can do with them what you please.

I voted to use them, But I have to admit, I do have some knives that don't get carried . It's funny that I don't feel bad about using a $450 wood inlay sebenza or a $400 Strider SNG, But I have $50 Case xx's and other less expensive knives put up that don't see any use at all! I doubt that I would use those 2 beautiful Bucks above, But I would certainly have (and do have!) a plain jane model of the same pattern that I would throw in my pocket!

"Who are you saving them for?" ....... I was asked that question..Gold blades are fairly tough,so don't be too afraid to DUC them.My BCCI club 111 has held up nice.In the end I use some, keep some NIB,hot rod a few,and enjoy ALL of them! When I die I asked Kathy to pass them out to all my friends and band mates [after the kids/grandkids/Dave/rest of family grab what they want]

I agree
If it is the only knife or one of few, use it for sure, thats what theyre made for. But if you have another just like it thats used, why break into the art/collectors stuff? I could wear a suit to work but my job doesnt call for it, it would get ruined and no good for church, weddings, funerals etc. Why use this nearly mint 72-74 3 liner

Ah! I can see by the tip of the 100th anniv. that it indeed has been used !:D

I carried that steady to work for about 6-7 years and it has seen alot of use. I have croc sticks cause I havent been able to pick up the art of stone sharpening-in fact a better picture would show some scratches on the blade from a botched attempt-so I never let it go too long without sharpening and subsequently no real blade loss. That tip still pi**es me off. I used it to pop a plastic center cap out of a Volvo S40 wheel and when I looked it was gone. I know you dont use them as pry bars but the tip IMHO should have held up. Other than that it has been dead solid reliable. Just picked up another on the for sale site from BCCL to use as a displayer.

Plan to get the Alaskan Guide 110,that one will get used.

The Cabelas Alaskan Guide series were made for use. I'd like to do my "trio approach" with the AG 110 w. Sambar Stag. One for regular use. A backup. A third to just sit there and look good. I have two (thanks to mtarnold for #1 & Flatlander for #2). Cabelas made 500 of 'em. They're around and I'm looking....
