Hi Folks

Well I redid my Glenfield 25

And taken down

I cut the barrel down to 16.5 inches and cut the stock to match

What do you think? I figure it will pack well. Shoots great.

I like it. That should pack very well. How much does it weight?

Put a flat nylon pouch on the side of the stock with two pockets, each with an extra mag. That or carve out a slot the stock and store an extra mag in the slot. You can put the slot behind the buttplate or on the underside of the stock, using a trapdoor. Another option would be to get a brass patchbox trapdoor from a muzzleloading supply outfit and put a patchbox carved into the side of the stock that can hold extra ammo and/or a mag or two.

Very nice. One way to improve it would be to add a peep sight. They add no bulk but allow much more accurate shooting.

Very well done. It looks like handy pack/camp/stewpot rifle. One quick and dirty way to store extra .22 ammo is to drill a series of holes running in from under the buttplate. Make them the length of however many rounds fit in the magazine. Mac

For people that like this concept, you can do the same thing with a Ruger 10/22 and a 16" carbon fiber barrel (stainless steel liner) from Butler Creek (standard profile with 'iron' sights). You can change the barrel on a 10/22 with an allen wrench. Combine it with a Butler Creek synthetic stock you can chop over 1/2 of the weight off of the rifle. The barreled action of a 10/22 removes from the Butler Creek fixed stock with one screw, just like that Glenfield.

You can also get a Picatinney rail for the Ruger 10/22 and even quick detach scope mounts. A two pocket speed loader pouch for a revolver will hold 2 Ruger 10 round rotary mags and can be kept on the sling.

Another neat solution is a Chipmunk or Cricket kids rifle. They only weigh 2lbs and have a thin, 16" barrel. However, they are single shot bolt actions with no magazine. the Chipmunk can also be had in .17HMR and .22mag.
