Cut my fingers on a CLOSED SEBENZA

I just do not understand HOW you guys are getting cut!!

I don't understand either. Since reading the original post I got out my two small Classics and small Regular. I can't get my flesh anywhere near the blades when they're closed!

This is a design flaw and a little change should be made to fix it. The curve in the back of the handle could be straightened out just a little and the blade could be ground, just a little, so that it isn't quite so wide.

I can stick the tip of my index finger between the handle and touch the sharpened edge of the closed blade. In normal handling I've never had a problem with the Classic Sebenza, however I wouldn't give a Classic Sebenza to a kid.

I think they are sliding their finger the length of the handle... where the back of the handle is open. Not something I do in normal handling but but yoiu should not be able to touch the sharpened edge so easily, IMHO.

I cut myself once on a closed Sebenza due to the absence of a backspacer. I have switched since then to a Lochsa for EDC and I do find the closed design a bit safer.

I was going to hold off on this product till the ad campaign was ready but

Seriously, I have tried to cut myself with 1 large and 3 small closed Sebenzas. I also attempted it with an Umfann and 2 BMs and a RENAT, that have exposed backs and got the same result- no cuts.

Sometimes (it's very rare) but a Classic and Regular blades can get mixed up at CRK and then (I can't remember which combo it is) does make the blade much closer to the edge and in some cases the blade tip can actually stick out the back. They check for this in QC, but I'm sure it has happened since I've read about it so it might be worthwhile giving CRK a call to see if they can do anything. Otherwise, I would recommend adding some extra pounds so no fingers can get in there again.

I've tried cutting myself on my Large Regular and can't do it to save my life.

Happened to me too, I was just handling my closed Small Classic and suddenly I feel a sharp pain in my index finger. That's what I get for polishing the edge, I guess. Solution -- use your Sebenza til enough of the blade is used up to prevent this.

How can I say, your blade is sound, plenty of belly, more you use it, more you'll sharpen it and this will fix the problem, mine feels secure now :D

Wow, this is an old thread. If you have any wrinkles on your fingers when you fold your hand, they can come in to contact with the closed blade edge on an open back knife. In all my years of knife handeling, it has only happened to my once though.

Happened to me only once. I had my large Classic in my right front pocket. I reached in to push it over to the right and dig out my keys. When I pushed it over the side of my pinky finger slipped into the back of the knife and made contact with the knife edge. When closed it is pretty close to the open back of the knife. Nice little slice that left alot of blood but was fine since it was such a clean cut. I learned very quickly not to stick any body part in the open back of the knife!!

I had a small bit of paint scrape into the bad edge of my small 21 from a lawn chair....with the blade closed I had tried to rub it off with my thumb and I guess just enough of my skin pressed through to the blade bc I cut myself too.....won't try that again...

In my experience it's the Classic/21 handle shape that can cut you through the back of the handle, not the Regular.

Extra pounds? I already weigh in at 335 pounds and it has happened to me.

cant get my large 21 to cut me when closed. Its really close but doesn't hit flesh even if i press down decently hard. im sure if i rammed my finger down i could get it to do it lol.

Happened to me with small 21 once. I was squeezing the hell out of it for whatever reason (which I don't remember). Haven't happen since then with variety of CRKs I've got/had.
