Man, you'd think I would learn. I got my first knife when I was about 7. It was a camp king. Sometime in that first year I decided to cut a small piece of plastic that I was holding in my hand. The blade slipped and I cut the side of my index finger deep. Emergency room and stitches followed. There were other cuts and stitches along the way but that was the first.

Now fast forward 40 years. Today I am holding a piece of plastic and cutting it. (Sound familiar) My little inner voice told me to slow down and find a place to set it down but I didn't listen. I was in a hurry. And sure enough....*slip*. DEEP! Like I didn't even want to look kind of deep. Lol, it was almost the exact same spot on the exact same finger. Luckily it hit the nail so it didn't go near as far as it could have, but it was nasty. The worst part about it was just feeling like an idiot. I KNEW BETTER!

Oh well, the good news is, even if I haven't learned much in 40 years I've apparently gotten better at self treatment. Between me and my girlfriend we were able to hold it closed long enough to get some superglue on it. That stopped most of the bleeding and we taped it up. Good to go. Ok, that's my story for the day. Don't know what the moral is. Don't be a dummy? ;)

Sorry, no pics. We needed all four hands to deal with it and once it was closed it wasn't so impressive looking. Too bad because that thing was winking at me at first. Would have gotten some nice "oohs and ahhs". :D

Glad you're alright. You left out one of the most crucial parts though.... which Spyderco!?

HAH!! I completely left out the most important part!! Well, I don't go cutting on myself with just any old plain Jane model. This was the green pm2 KW exclusive! And I had a smoking sharp coarse edge on there...you know because I like my edges to have a lot of "bite"!

We've all done it. A Delica 4 made a fillet out of my index finger a couple months back. You play with fire long enough and eventually you get burned. Heal fast.

Jeez, I was cringing reading that. Shoot, hope you heal up quick. Dunk it in the salt water a little bit later.

It's always the worst feeling when you cut yourself doing something you know you shouldn't have done :( I was cutting a tag off a t-shirt with my Delica and got cut real bad. I didn't realize how effortless it would be to cut straight though one of those tags. I put a lot of force into it, thinking it wouldn't go straight through... My finger got cut pretty deep. I've never had a knife as sharp as a Spyderco right out of the box.
Anyways, I hope your finger heals up quick!

It happens to the best of us. Two weekend ago I had a buddy down to go hiking. While prepping my gear, I took my Izula out of the sheath to make sure it was good and sharp. It was. I turned my head to talk to my buddy (stupidly) and tried to jam my knife back in the sheath but missed entirely, slicing my index and middle fingers pretty deep. Worst I have ever cut myself, but the superglue trick worked well for me too. Hope you heal quickly SurfGringo!

Good story, glad you're ok. I got myself pretty good for the first times in years the other day. I was out clearing some trails and chopping vines in the woods with a Tramontina machete. I got tripped up at one point and managed to stab the side of my knee with it, ouch. Not bad really, no stiches or glue needed, but still kind of a scary little puncture. A nice reminder not to forget what you're holding ;)

I went to the emergency room for the first time in my life a couple of years ago after a deep cut to a finger on my right hand that I couldn t adequately close with strips. Had 3 stitches placed. Did I feel dumb. I got the cut while trying to do a difficult disassembly of an odd Chinese knife I got from the NRA. Have had a number of minor cuts.

I'm hesitant to post this photo. It does no justice, but whatever. Here's what it looked like tonight when I pulled the tape and superglue off. The line you see on the nail is where it actually cut through the nail until eventually it found something harder to stop it.

Makes me cringe, cut my own finger about a year ago while making a sheath for a bolo that I have, cut the tendon on my left index finger, plus ended up with a real bad double infection.-finger never gonna be the same,I could have bought 100 sheaths for the same money I spent in doctor bills ,be careful guys ....

Yup, that's the only reason I went to the trouble of posting this. This was an accident that was completely avoidable never should have happened. A result of impatience and carelessness. I was actually fortunate that mine hit meat and bone instead of tendon like yours. As you said...be careful guys.

Not a bad choice, definitely worse things you can maim yourself with...

Like a mini buzzsaw blade on a Dremel.
I saw that one coming from a mile away, still not quite as deep as yours but it the flesh hungry machine left a nice scar and a bit of numbness (mostly gone now but still noticeable). I pretty much don't touch those things anymore. Metal cutting disks and diamond cutters are fine since they generally bounce off, but jagged teeth just dig in and shred.
