Cut myself bad today.

It happens to the best of us. I had a real bad one on my right index finger a few years back from the Pacific Salt. Every single time I pick up that knife (or any knife) I instantly remember that cut and to be careful. Things like this teach us the best lessons.

Damn gringo!

I had a "spyder bite" with my manix a month or so ago. My friend was using my manix to cut open a case of beer, and when he was done I told him "just toss me my knife bro"

I'll let the pic do the talking:D
Let's just say, alot of alcohol was involved!!!

It's like riding a motorcycle - there are those who have fallen and those who are going to fall. I have fallen on each of my motorcycles (Honda Goldwing and Harley Road Glide) so it was finally time to cut myself bad enough to require stitches.

I was trying to cut two zip ties on a crate that dogs are shipped in. I was in a rush to get the little guy out of his crate after his long airplane ride. I cut the first tie but got pretty close to my thumb. My wife points this out and I ignore her advice because she hates knives and because I have been playing with knives for over 50 years and never cut myself badly enough to require stitches. I cut the second tie and of course cut deeply into my thumb when the ties gives way. I am now bleeding all over myself and the crate while my wife gives me the "I told you to be careful" look. The puppy thinks this is all great fun.

It will cost a lot of money to go to the ER. So, I send my wife into a local drug store to get some band-aids and then drive six hours to get back home so I can go to the after-hours clinic at my doctor's office because it will only cost $25.00. Constant pressure during those six hours stops the bleeding but it starts up again when the physician's assistant yanks on the band-aid to get it off instead of cutting it off. He wants to know if I am on blood thinners because it is bleeding so much. He is training a new assistant and she looks queasy. Four stitches eventually solves the problem.

Among the many lessons learned that day - Use a smooth and controlled slicing motion to cut things instead of trying to push the blade through the thing being cut. Listen to the wife if she is standing right there and she is in a position to see what happens when you ignore what she says. Beware of large Physician's Assistants who have just returned from Iraq and whose nickname is "The Bear."

Oh, and the puppy is fine but undoubtedly bored after his exciting first day with us.

Well, at least the Capt Morgans could be used to sterilize the wound!

Heal fast!

Heh. I am a pro at negligent self-incisions. If it has an edge, I can cut myself with it. Been a while since I really got meself, so I figure I'm about due. My blades are THIRSTY>..

That will leave a mark.

In your last fishing thread, the title mentioned some blood...I was tempted to be a wise ass and say "glad none of it was yours!"

The only logical explanation for this happening is because I sent bad ju ju your way! ;) :)

That's a nasty cut but it will probably heal up nicely enough that at the ripe old age of 87 you'll be due to reopen that old wound again. Something to look forward too. ;-)

Oh dude, I am having no trouble envisaging what that looked like pre-superglue. Especially after reading the bit about the sharp toothy edge. Gawd I can almost feel it *shudder*
And I recently read the head stab post too.
Umm, these thing's can come in threes, so take extra care for a while yeah?

And thanks for sharing 'cause this post is gonna make me a bit more careful for a while. Haven't lacerated myself for several weeks now, would like to try and keep it that way.

Great pics fellas! I've accidentally cut myself within the first hour of every spyderco knife I've ever owned. It's just with spyderco, no other knives. I'm spyderco challenged.

ok i tried to search for this stabbing yourself in the forehead thing, couldnt find it...can anyone point me in the right direction, im curious lol.

I've got the green PM2 as well. My favorite knife these days. I did that exact same cut on myself last year with my favorite kitchen knife, a Japanese White Steel Santoku that was freshly sharpened. Sliced through my finger before I could put the brakes on--would have gone through the nail too, but by the time it hit that slight resistance I was able to pull back. I didn't think of the superglue trick, but I managed to stop the bleeding and save the tip of my finger. No sign it ever happened, now. Hope yours heals as well as mine did.

I picked up a Boker Kwaito about a year and a half ago. Nice little fixed-blade knife with a tight-fitting kydex sheath. The thing was very sharp and had a wicked point on it.

When I showed the knife to my brother he inserted the knife into the sheath much harder than he needed to after looking the knife over. A few minutes later I went to take the knife out of the sheath and it took a serious amount of tugging. When it finally budged, I tried to slow the draw so it would come out more under control. Instead, my effort to slow the draw resulted in the blade, which had already come free of the sheath, jerking back toward the sheath and stabbing straight into my index finger on my left hand. It hit the bone and stopped. I pulled it out as quickly at it had gone in, and when I put the knife down and brought my finger up to look at the wound it shot a micro-jet of blood into my left eye. I applied pressure, but when I looked again, it did the same thing. Very very fine jet of blood.

I put a band-aid on it and then some surgical tape and it didn't bleed much after that (surprisingly). It was a very odd cut, really more like a deep lancing, and my finger bone ached for about a week. I typically bleed a lot, but clot quickly, and this was no exception fortunately. I've never seen a small blood vessel like that pierced and produce such a tiny stream of arterial spray.

I've had a lot of worse cuts and punctures, but that one was the strangest.

It's like riding a motorcycle - there are those who have fallen and those who are going to fall.

Don't jinx me, man. Been playing with knives for a couple decades and with bikes for a couple of years. I haven't fallen off my bike or seriously cut myself (yet)
