It's nice to see, from the replies above, that this isn't necessarily true.
Artwork like those on the first page is beyond my skills at the moment, but I definitely appreciate them and their beauty. I like it most though when beauty and utility can merge; I've seen a lot of those kind of knives here on BF, and hope to someday get to that level myself.
Hey, maybe when you get your skills up to where you feel you need them to be, you can lead a renaissance of small artsy knives.
If you don't find it of substance that Murray White is the ONLY collector the put up a large display of those types of knives, then I don't know what to tell you.
Personally, I very much like art folders and fixed blades that deviate from the norm and own a few....am likely to purchase a fixed blade around 5-7" much more so than a big honkin' bowie....but of the knives that I have tried to sell or trade in the last few years, those have been the slowest to move.
I have seen the catalogs or have been to the shows featuring the top art knife makers over the last 10 years....there certainly is not a lot of desire for small artsy knives at that level.
There isn't ANY desire for small artsy knives at the beginner level because they are not affordable for people spending around $200.00/knife.
The middle from say $300.00 to $1,500.00 is cut throat, as companies like Medford, William Henry, CRK, Kershaw,Benchmade.....are solidly there....then there are the mid tech knives and then new makers competing against existing makers.
SOMEONE will buy small artsy knives, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the "market".
Good luck and
Best Regards,
