Cutters Knife & Tool Brend Ti Folder.

WOW this is perfect. no more debates on the history of this wonderful knife and CKT. All the info we need is right here in the thread.
I'm glad to hear from you Tom and have you on the forum, I might just take you up on that offer and send my baby in for a freshening up.

As for mqqn, sorry to hear that your knife had been heavily altered on the end and is not in original condition. Especially since it was YOUR knife that started this much needed and informative thread.
We would all prefer to always know the EXACT history of the knife we buy, as well as the previous owner being 100% knowledgable. This way we can make a better decision on actual value/collectability and what we're willing to pay.
But regardless of what you initially paid, at least you dont have to worry about taking away anymore value on the knife as you use it and scratch it up further. Its a great user, go ahead and enjoy it like you have.
I'm scared to have any scratches show up on my blade other than a few light rubs it already has. Mine is for admireing/showing off. My beat up Sebenza is for using. In fact as I write this I feel if I had to spend hundreds again on a high quality/value knife it should be another CKT Brend. But this time have it be "previously enjoyed", so I can have a no guilt user.

Hi Nostimos -

Thanks for posting.

I am not at all disappointed that my knife was altered - it is a very early example, and the mods don't detract from the value for me. I intended to use it always irregardless.

I would love to see more pictures of other's #2's - if you get time to post some!

best regards -

mqqn

Yeah sure, i'd be happy to post pics.
It's late, I cant sleep, I have my knives out already and thought I'd take some pics so I can update my computer folder. Why not upload them to flicker to share with other Brend/CKT fans. . . .

I put it with my user/edc large Sebenza Classic 2000 for scale.
2 Great titanium framelocks. Built for two different types of jobs.
With the sebbie next to the Cutters/Brend, its simpler utilitarian blade looks like its just made for work (I heard "sebenza" is african/zulu for "work").
But in contrast the Cutters/Brend looks so mean like it would be carried by a Navy seal for "wet work" ;-)

Hi Nostimos -

Very nice!! Nice comparison, too.

Your pictures are very clear and show the contrasts between the two knives.

The Cutters does look mean, the grind is very well done. Your picture also shows me how my example was modified.

Cool knives that you just don't see everyday!

PIC00029.jpgPIC00012.jpgPIC00019.jpgPIC00020.jpgPIC00023.jpgHey Nostimos ,
thanks for the post and pics. Im waiting for that baby of yours to refurb (LOL). Since you guys are playing showoff here's a DA just finished and the first MA just finished in carbon fiber and Ti. You guys Let me know what you think about the carbon slab-side I may do a few more.

Carbon fiber looks sweet.
there's a lot of customs/semi- customs tacticals that i've seen that use just one titanium sided handle slab (the liner/framelock side) and the other is just a thicker slab of CF or G10.
This offering of yours could definetely compete with those.
i've even seen people offer to sell just a g10 or CF slab to change up the look of their sebenzas. if/when i send my CKT to you maybe you could make a CF side for me for a fee(i'm ok if it makes it just manual opening).
More and more collectors are starting to demand variation of materials in the handles, so titanium framlock/CF is a great idea. Good luck.

Hi Tom -

I like the carbon fiber! I will bet that takes the weight down noticeably as well.

Thanks for the pictures.

best regards -

A few other Production/MA versions:

A DA version with the provided key and instructions to remove the leaf spring and convert it to MA:

And here's one of the HG/HP ones I was lucky to get for my collection. Very sweet knives in fit/function. The solid Ti frame locks it up w/o any play whatsoever:

Hey Nostimos,
Thanks its my first for the #2s but Iv been mixing it up for a couple of years on the Bengal karambits I make in Ti and carbon or G10 as in this pic.

Andy your right it lightens the knife unbelievably I think I have enough .250 carbon to do 2 more.:D

Dam gzb I knew you had a couple but I didn't know you were supporting me (LOL);):D. Thats a bunch of #2 buddy THANK YOU and thank you for the mention of the lock-up. The only dam thing I wasn't happy with on the HGs gaz was excepting the engraved clips, there engraved upside-down:eek:.

Thanks for looking frontline29.

I do my best to give the best lockup with a smooth action and a smooth lock disengagement with no blade play:D. Thanks again guys for a great thread its always nice to here what others think GOOD OR BAD.

Personally only have the single HG/HP one Tom. Wish I had more in the collection...

Hey Gzb,
forgot to mention if you ever want to do something a little different with the HG DA. I did one a while back with polished hardware in a black DLC handle and the contrast was nice, just a thought Id be happy to do it for ya.

I like the idea! Will be in touch Tom...

DAMN GZB! now THAT'S a hand ground BREND blade, you're one of the very few and very lucky.

I was right in an earlier post, most assumed they had a HG Brend blade and talked it up especially when they wanted to sell them (even the guy I bought mine from was saying it was ground by Brend and wanted 750 at first), but if you've actually seen the HG Brends whether with the CKT #2, the earlier Woodard/White Wolf autos, or even Brend's own customs you can really tell the difference.

Even though I regret selling the Brend/Woodards since I had no ideal they'd go from $200 to ??????? (as beautiful as those deep grinds were I needed the money), I'm much more impressed with the overall manufacture of Tom's titanium framelock version. The others just had aluminum handles. They were of quality but a simpler aluminum handled auto cannot compare to a titanium framelock D/A even if its worth more. I believe I had one with a regular benchmade style button lockup and the other had a linerlock but still fired from a button. Even though the market has decided these are more "collectible" probably since Brend did all the blades, I'm pretty sure the later CKT titanium framelock offering was harder to make. I hear titanium is not easy to work with, but worth it in the end due to strengh.
I wasn't collecting when Tom's knife came out, but when I discovered them a few years ago, I HAD to get my hands on his BREND D/A.

I've heard the term GRAIL knife in the forums A LOT, and even though I've owned quite a few great custom hand made tacticals in the mid to late 90's (including the TWO BREND/Woodards) GZB's HG BREND/CKT D/A is the ULTIMATE GRAIL KNIFE for me!

You should start your own pic heavy thread just for braggin rights.

PS. Since we've learned all we can about the CKTs esp. with Tom contributing to the thread, it would be interesting if some collector out there with more information on the earlier Brend/Woodard offering could enlighten us on this more obscure knife. Pics would be great too, I never took any of mine when I had them.

Thanks for the compliments. And I admit I also collect Brend WhiteWolfs. Need to get some new pics but here's a few for now:

And lastly, a favorite Brend WW. Not all had aluminum handle slabs. This is a one/50 version with solid Stainless Steel (heavy as hell) handle slabs and a wicked Brend Black Mirror blade. They also came in a nifty Custom leather case:

It is nice to see this love for the CK&T Brend #2's.
I only have one, but I love it greatly. I was told when I got it that it had been reworked by Reese Weiland. I do not know if it is true, but I love it and enjoy carrying and using it. It is the best framelock knife that I own. Smoooooth action. Rock solid lockup, and just the sexiest knife you could ask to own.
I love the blades satin flats and polished grinds. Class all the way!! I also like the orangepeel finish with the blue ano on mine. It makes it my go to dress folder!!;)
Here are a few poor shots of mine.

I also had the pleasure of talking and dealing with Tom. By the end of our conversations, this was the outcome of my CK&T.... Gotta love the flamed TI and "Tactical" look...
Thanks Again Tom, a true work of art that functions flawlessly. Smooth as butter, super kick in auto and lock-up like a vault.
