hi guys what saw or tool would best cut 1 1/2 6061 aluminum ?

I used my metal cutting bandsaw to cut the 1" thick aluminum plate for my plate quench set up.

I use my band saw and a bi metal blade that is more aggressive than the 14 tooth per inch. I've used skip tooth saws on thicker aluminum and they seem to clog up less to me but 14 tpi will work if thats all you have. Contrary to when cutting metal or titanium I've found that cutting aluminum at higher speeds seems to be easier to both me and the saw also. Some may disagree but thats how I do it. I will say that I've never cut anything as thick as what you are referring to though. 5/16" thick is the thickest plate I have cut and all I really ever cut is plate or sheet stock for that matter.

I agree also in using low TPI blades and high speeds for Al. I have cut 4" and 6" chunks without too many problems.
