Hi i'm new to knife making & have a couple of questions. Until now i been buying knife blanks (North coast knives) great supplies & fitting scales that's ok but have my own ideas.I have a 30" belt grinder & 24" band saw will this be enough to cut & shape 440c stainless into knife blanks if so need recomendations on 30" belt types will buy 1/8x1-1/2x12"flat stock also will these tools work ok for damastic blanks?

Welcome.

Your tools sound adequate.

Belts from 40, 60 to 120 grit will serve your purpose as 440C hand rubs great down to a 1500 grit and a soft wheel polish will give you a nice mirror finish.

The only thing I see you may need is a controlled heat treat furnace if you plan on doing your own heat treating.

I use 1880 degrees F and hold for thirty minutes and quench in oil.

A 375 degree F one hour draw should give you a 57-58 hardness.

Hope this helps.

Just as a caution: is your bandsaw set up to cut metal? Metal cutting bandsaws run near and below the 250 FPM range with an
appropriate blade.
