question: how do you determine the long axis of the work (like a knife handle) from a lump of burl if there's no grain?

With this cap there was an end with a cut where i could tell the direction that the cap went on the tree trunk. Sometimes there will be a natural edge all the way around and it will be harder to tell. Since the grain in a burl cap goes every which way it is not necessary to orient the grain, but I try to anyways whenever possible.
