For a long time the gold standard for slicing was the Calypso Jr, all other knives were compaired to it. Any new knife I got, I did a side by side with the Jr. Before I got a Caly, I wondered if it would cut as well as the old Jr.
I have had the Caly for a week now and can say with relief, the Caly slices just as well as the Jr. My cutting usually is on pine 2x4's, cardboard, and oak branches. When you cut into an oak branch and if it "bites" into the cut you know you have an aggressive cutter.
Now I have two super slicers.

I certainly agree. The flat ground Spydies are cutting monsters.
Just don't slip and give them a bite of ya. :D

I have a Caly Jr and it compares favorably with my R2 for slicing power. The R2 never really caught on but I like it, find it very comfortable to grip and a terrific slicer.

I have a R-2 as well and I was surprised that it was not a big hit. It is a large Calypso Jr. type blade. I guess people want their Calypsos to be small.

My Calypso 3 slices just as well as my old CJ. In fact, I like it so much more, I traded off my old grey FRN CJ because I didn't need it anymore. The new Caly 3 is about the same size but in my opinion is just a better all around knife. I won't miss the CJ at all. I traded it towards a CF Military so that helps.

I have an R2 and also love it. I think if more people handled it they would like it. That being said, I really like the Caly 3 I am using in a passaround. It is SE, and it really cuts well, has impeccable fit and finish, and is by far the smoothest lock back I have used, with very good ergonomics. I like the grippy G-10, the wire clip, and of course the full flat frind with very thin and acute edge. I wish it was PE, but I am getting used to making smooth cuts with the SE, and it doesn't hardly dull at all. I wish they would add another model with a 3.5" blade and longer handle to match, because my mitts would like the bigger handle and 3.5" blade seems to be a great EDC length for me (as I found out with my R2). I think it would be a good seller, and compliment the Caly 3 well.

I'd take the Caly 3 over the Caly jr as well. The Caly 3's flat grind and heftier feel give it a slight advantage IMHO.
