This is the knife I wish I'd had done for the the ABS MidWest Expo here in Troy a couple weeks ago. Not to fear though....the SOFA Quad State Roundup is here at the end of the month and Jerry Fisk and Dan Farr are gonna hold a cutting contest.

The blade is forged from a plowshare...quite literally. Slightly over 5/16 at the spine. The blade is 10" by 1.75" and the OAL is 15". The tang measures 3/4" wide and runs to the end of the handle.

Blade was clay hardened and then tempered 3 times.

The guard is 3/8" black linen micarta. Handle material is blue/black G10 stacked in three 1/4" layers....center layer being cutout to fit the tang. Held together with Acraglas, stainless Corby bolts, pins and thong tubing. The grip is heavily sandblasted.

Initial tests without the handle attached are impressive....should be a great knife.

Awesome knife Greg! I'm looking forward to swinging it around :). I've got a blade lying around I should throw a handle on for a chopper...we'll see how that goes.

All right....you drive a hard bargain :). I should be finishing up sheaths, but I'll get something together anyway :) hahaha. I'll be bringing at least five bowies with me for everybody to play with.

has gotta like that! I vote this as your new avitar! Nice, nice looking blade.

Looks really nice. How well do you think the micarta guard will hold up?

Terry...I think the guard will be just fine.....I have used a much thinner micarta guard on my Combat Specials for a long time now and they are not a problem.

This one is pretty thick and it it is butted up to the blade's shoulders and JB Welded....then the handle scales butt up against that....so i dont think you could knock it off.

I taken pieces of scrap micarta and beat it with hammers, etc....it would take catastrophic force to snap the guard tine off.

The G10 is very easy to work...much more so than micarta.

Hey Greg nice looking knife, But will it do five bottles of water!! :) :)

That looks like a great cutter Greg, I'm sure she'll work well for you. If it wasn't so far off, I'd come up and do it again. I had alot of fun at Troy cutting and chopping, if I get the time, I'm gonna take mine down to Maryland next month and play some more. Let me know how things go at the SOFA gathering. Go get 'em.

Pete here only has 3 posts here on the forums which is surprising because you shoulda seen the cutter that he made for the ABS Expo.....Pete makes a really great knife!

It was great having J. and Ray over to the small (and dirty) shop at the expo. Ray gave me a great tip to knock a little warp out of a HT'd blade that I made.

Mace and Al were fun to have up to the shop too....but they stunk it up with a "liberated" 55gal drum that we cut into a fire ring very late at night :barf:

Thanks for all the compliments! Since I used Acraglas on the handle I'm gonna wait a few days for a full cure before the heavy cutting. I made a Mike Sastre style kydex sheath for the knife and I will try to post a pic later of the entire rig.

Hey Greg,
Nice knife....did you forge that out of the sawzall blade we used to cut the barrel? I bet thats why your shop still stinks. :barf:
Good luck..and give Jerry a pinch for me.

That kicks some serious behind!! The fact that your cutting comp knife looks very similar to your other blades means your designs are spot-on and meant for cuttin'. Good luck and take some pics.

Another great looking knife, Greg. What, exactly is a plow share made of anyway? 1095, or something similar?

Yeah...I just can't seem to kick that Bagwell influence.....I mean, I had it in my mind to sweep the tip up higher, etc....but I wanted the tip from the clip on out to be thinner so it would be fast and make a finer cut.

The blade makes a constant distal taper from the guard to the tip.

I am waiting for some 1" rope to arrive so I can test it out in that respect.

Mace: That sawzall blade is permanently contaminated and I called the EPA to come pick it up :D
