Cutting contest!

Great Test! I am surprised that the CS didn't go through the tubing. The heft and momentum definately made it easier for the FBMLE. The FBMLE probably also had better edge geometry. I knew there was a reason why I love my FBMLE. It is the only MAGed Fusion handle knife that I would tolerate because it is just so darn awesome and beautiful.

A better comparison to the FBMLE would probably be a CS Khukri or Barong of some sort.

Great report and pics! Is that FBM the one that had been modded by Bill Siegle? Did he do all the work, swedge, edge profile, handle?

Sure is! I believe he did the clip, handle smooth, and sharpened it.

I did not expect the CS to do as well. It was just the only other large bladed knife I have on hand. I also would have liked to test it against a CS khukri. I can tell you that the edge on the CS is sharper than the LE. It is quite polished, using a lansky system and finished on a sapphire polishing stone (it was sharp enough to make hair jump off the arm when I finished it). The edge retention on the CS has been very good over the years, and I would like to put another convex edge on it (like it came with, a convex zero edge). I can use it to practice sharpening this way, so when the LE gets dull, I can convex that edge too.

I also think if the CS had the same handle ergo's as the LE, or at least better than it had (like the dog father handle) I fully think it would have made the cut. It just twisted very hard in the hand each time I tried.

what really struck me was how uncomfortable the CS handle felt compared to the LE (and I have been using it for 6 years you think I would have noticed that before). The LE I have hardly had any time to use it at all, and it just feels natural when you swing it hard.

Excellent report. I'll have to see the pics at home. I used to have a bolo that cut deeper than anything I have tried. Or that's what I remember. But after light use it hand chunks of the edge just blow out. Then finally broke in half. I would love another bolo with quality steel and heat treat. That would be sweet. ;)

nice pics. that looked fun.
once upon a time before i even knew about Busse, SR, and SY i used to be into CS knives. i still have a magnum tanto 9 in san mai. i wasn't impressed with the edge retention of the steel or the price for value (i payed about 200 for it), but i liked the look and feel of the knife. the kraton is a bit uncomfortable (especially when trying to hit things hard with it), but the shape was comfortable for me (small hands). i should bust that out and compare it to a similar Busse. it does make a good kitchen knife, which is about all i use if for

thanks for the test and pics big fatty!
i suggest you put on some goggles and slap the fbm and that "san mai" thingie together on video and send em to ..... .........
just get past the foreplay and chop up the cold steel bowie.
do it. do it.
