I'm interested in making a bread knife with serrations. What are some ways to cut serrations, and do you do it before or after heat-treatment? How do you keep them even?

After HT use a round diamond file of whatever size you choose for your serrations. Get a wooden dowel the same size as the file. Make your first cut to the depth and angle you wish then tape the dowel (with spacer as needed) to the file. Place the dowel rod in the finished serration and start your next cut. Move down the blade using the dowel in the previous cut as a guide. You can vary every other one by not cutting as deep with the file.

wrap the rod in the sand paper of your liking and work your way up
ruff cut pre heat treat then clean up with brass and paper

least that what im betting and thats more less the way i did things (i ll just be using brass rod and sand paper from now on)
