I have a 14" delta bandsaw which mainly for cutting antler, ebony etc. for the handle tang. I do have a 3/4" bi-metal cutting blade with the intentions for cutting the outline for the blades. I have never tried cutting steel using the bandsaw. Does anyone know if it can be done with the delta 14" bandsaw?. I would appreciate your opinions thanks, Rey. I have been using my angle grinder with a thin steel cutting wheel which sure is hard to do, to cut the outline for the blades.

I think the saw runes to fast for cuting steel and will just burn the teeth of the blade.

There are many who have slowed down this type of band saw and installed the correct blade and found they will do a good job. Frank

You can change to pulley size. I was thinking 14''to 2'' But you are still not slow enough. I scrapped the whole idea. Use my sears saw for handles and such. Glad I did. I went and got the horizontal band saw from harbor freight
for 179.00.

+1 on the HF saw. I keep saying mine was the best $150 I ever spent on knifemaking tools.

Rey,

what does the maual say? i have an old delta band saw that actually has a transmission in it that will slow down to cut metal. if you dont have the manual for your model check out deltas web site they have manuals for down load in pdf form. that should answer your questions.

good luck
