Cutting through an axe head?(and antique axe head value)

Keep it wet so it doesnt heat up too much, but its not necesary. U can go like full power while cutting the poll, eye and the soft part of the edge. Although, when u get to the tempered edge u have to slow down with the cutting process. This prevents the steel from burning. If you keep the whole axe wet as i mentioned before, go full power with it. I suggest an angle grinder 1600W or more. It is possible to do this job with a cheap 600-900W angle grinder, but it will take like 20-30min.

This suggestion certainly won't speed up your work at all but will retain the head stamp in such a way that it is still centered; can you come in from both ends with a grinder? Quite a bit more work to keep the rear profile authentic but if you're going to devote time and effort why not go "the whole 9 yards". 50 years from now some rabid tool collector will trumpet, or gloat over, the "one off" he's bagged.

I vote leave it intact, hang it and then find one better suited to what you wanted to buy our trade for. Don't hack up a perfectly good, in good condition, head when there are perfect heads out there.
