Someone who knows how to photoshop, please post a picture of a Spyderco Sharpmaker with carrots in place of sharpening rods! You would be a hero.

Please note the carrot and celery has different grit, so it is probably best to create an even scratch pattern with the celery first before moving onto the carrot sticks.
 
It actually works well, if one cut veggies avoiding knife to run against chopping board. I have been using a single custom (spring steel) for more than 20 years to cut my vegetable. It gets sharper with each day.

seriously though, if you use end grain wood butchers block, you'll not harm most decent steel, if anything it may act as a deburring block
