We are gone for a bit of a walkabout , back in a month or so
its not a minimalist trip , we are taking a car , covering some 14000 km or so all up I have fitted a small truck fuel tank to the trailer , and plumbed it intot he car as an auxillary tank , the 40 litre tank under the car doesnt get us real far , its got a safe range of 350 km , the problem is , some places , the fuel stops are 400 km apart , and fuel roughly double what it cost in the city ... about $3.00 a litre so I hear from folk who have just crossed over this way ... so now we have 100 litres fuel in cans , and 120 in the trailer tank , as well as the 40 litre the car holds itself anyway . It should get us thru the trouble spots
we are taking a couple tents , one for mum and the kids , one for me and the Mrs , the kids usually have their own tent but this time we are expecting colder weather , extra bodies in the tents will theoretically make it warmer ... and we havent the patience for them mucking up so much like they do in their own tent .
we have 60 litres of water on board , with another 20 litres in the car in drinking bottles , a 165 litre toolbox converted to tuckerbox in the back of the car ( toyota liteace van actually ) its loaded to the top with stuff to eat and stuff to eat it with .
I fitted up a sound system this time , so the crew dont have to put up with me singing
I been collecting the parts for about 8 months now , I might not have a big budget , but I do have a few years experience in car audio .. our car has nice sound now , it thumps if I want it to as well
.
the motor has been serviced and everything I could find to grease has been greased , the tyres are a bit oversized , 195x14 light truck tyres on the front , and the same size but hancook mud terrain tyres on the rear for a bit of grip in the muddy bits , its supposed to run 175x14 tyres , but it used to bog if you parked it near sand , now , its a different beast altogether .
the trailer has been set up to make it easy to rig a tarp over a frame to give us a sheltered area .
for 1/2 the trip , we will be camping for the other 1/2 we will be paying to stop in caravan parks , we have a baby with us this time , and have to even send pictures back to the caseworker every couple days to prove the bubs is happy and healthy so for the sake of creatng the impression that we are civillised , we plan to take the pictures where the back ground is looking "civilised"
nuff gasbaging , got to get some sleep
Have fun while Im gone , see ya in a few weeks !
