I have been a fan of the Kershaw/Ken Onion knives for quite a while, I have five Leeks of various genders, (my favorite is my Damscus) and I have a couple of Centofantes as well. I just got a Mini Cyclone 1635BLK about 5 days ago and I love it! But wait, today I got my Cyclone 1630TBLKST and I love it even better than the mini. So I guess the next step is the Tyrade and completely empty my wallet. lol:D

I like the Cyclone so much that I have 3 of 'em...Two full-sized, and one "Mini"...All are plain-edge, satin...

If you don't yet have a Junkyard Dog II, that's one to take a look at. Eventho' it doesn't have the "Speed-Safe", it still snaps open pretty fast, and feels great in the hand.

Just received my "First" Cyclone in the mail today; it's a 1630. That's a whole lot of knife Baby! I've been looking at getting one for a while now, and finally scored one on Ebay for $36.00 Shipped. A buddy of mine got one at a gun show when they first came out, and has been hounding me ever since to get a Cyclone. Well, he'll be happy to hear I've joined the Dark Side, until he finds out I didn't pay ~$65 -$80 like he did.

Well, gonna give my Cyclone a go as my EDC. I'll see how it does compared to my Leeks.

More Cylones to follow..

i'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and i hope that mine was a rare fluke. i have had three mini's warrantied. the last of them just went back to kershaw this week. i like the knife, hate the torsion bar. i am going for the speed bump, which is the only kershaw knife that appeals to me at the moment. other than the snap on editions, which i dont think i can get from them.

As an update since I posted the above, I have added a Tanto Cyclone to my stack of Kershaws, so now I have a total of 4 Cyclones.:).

rosconey has made an excellent point...grab a MC in Ti/ZDP whilst they're available. That will be a purchase you will not regret.

just got a mini cyclone myself, my favorite so far, but ive got a full size boa on the way so......

I just wish that the cyclone's AO could be deactivated when the knife is closed. But i guess mechanically it's not possible. Overall, a very sturdy knife. I find myself actually using the manual mode than the speedsafe mode.

hey glockman,
how bout doing a nice review of your newest cyclone. i gotta say, on all of your praising of the Mini-ZDP i bit the bullet on it and it is one of the most amazing feeling knives this side of the few customs i have had the pleasure of holding.

Have the Cyclone's blade always been 13C26 Sandvik or were they initially 440A? My Cyclone is dated Sep 06. IIRC from what I've read on this forum, many models switched from 440A to 13C26 sometime in 2007 (July or August maybe).

I bought my Cyclone a couple of weeks ago from KnifeCenter.com at the same time I bought a Kershaw Shun Cleaver (VG-10 blade with layers of another type steel that gives it a Damascus look) as a birthday present for my wife. Awesome knife and she loves it! :)

Anyway, I would be most appreciative if someone could tell me what type of blade steel is in my Sep 06 Cyclone before I really use it. So far, I've mostly just been playing with it. :o And eventhough Kershaw made some excellent blades out of 440A, I would expect that their 13C26 blades are even better.

In short, can anyone tell me what steel was used to make the blade for a Cyclone dated September 2006?

Thanks!

Let it Bleed,

Your Cyclone is 13C26. They were one of the models that had 13C26 from day one.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. :)

Except for a few Leatherman multi-tools, a 25 year old Buck 110, and a CRKT K.I.S.S. that I bought in 1999, I was relatively unaware of the enormous innovations in knives. From what I can discern, Kershaw was one of, if not the major trendsetter in new designs.

I guess I'm just saying thanks for doing what ya'll do.
