I've just finished hand sanding my D-2 knife blade with 220 grit.It looks okay but in very good lighting I can still see the structural makeup of the steel.What else can I do to make the blade look smooth without seeing the structural make-up of the steel.Thank-You for all your help.

You won't really be able to get rid of the structure in D2 steel. That's one of the characteristics of that steel. I usually hand sand to abot 400 grit and then finish with green Scotchbrite.
