D.B. Fraley Deluge 4.5 with Jon Christensen Leaf Damascus

What they all said!!! :eek::eek:

Mitch, that's a beaut any way you look at it! Would love to carry that one around the office - people would gasp at first glance and then drool over it when they really look at it! (Yes, I work in a law office and there ARE people here who appreciate some of the knives I've brought in!!! :D)

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys for the comments - glad to see a lot of familiar names :)

Congrats - wonderfull pice.
Can you please elaborate on the spacer?
TIA

There's no "spacer" - in the bolster there's a line cut to give it a little more dimension and design flair - in the pictures it looks like a black spacer, but it's a groove cut in the Damascus. On the liners - they're titanium with vines filework - to match the "leaf" theme.

On the backspacer (and maybe this is what you're asking about) Derek came up with pure genius: If you take a piece of mosaic Damascus like Jon's Leaf pattern and simply take the bar stock and make a backspacer out of it, you will just see the layer stack (the edges) and not the pattern (the face). So Derek made a titanium backspacer (anodized blue) and then cut tiles out of the bar stock and inlaid them so you could see the pattern. I've not seen someone do this before and it is awesome!

I had to bring this thread back from the dead just because of how epic-ly awesome this knife is!

I am blown away by the seemingly endless amazing work and talented craftsmen I continually discover EVERY single time I explore bladeforums beyond the Busse sub-forum...

I may have to get myself on D.B Fraley's list.

What can I say other than I get weak in the knees and wallet upon the sight of heavy-duty, hard-use functional art...

My kind of knife!

Beautiful damascus, beautiful Ivory.

Kind regards,

Jos

I think I have to face the fact that I like folders. Because I keep saying 'I don't usually like folders but....'. Alright I'm out of the closet. I like folders. And this knife is one more dang reason why.
